No, I don't think they'll return to branding motherboards in the foreseeable future. The reasons for leaving in the first place are every bit as relevant today.
There is also a glut of board makers. Intel selling boards wouldn't meaningfully increase competition, it would just make it that much harder for OEMs to compete in saturated market where one company was able to use it's own chipsets.
