Important DirectX features now shipping with UDK include:
- Tessellation and displacement;
- Geometry shaders;
- Multisampled textures; and
- Shader Model 5.

High-end rendering features include:
- Image-based reflections that allow surfaces of any shape to reflect an approximate version of scenes, with varying glossiness across surfaces, anisotropic HDR highlights and anti-aliasing;
- Subsurface scattering (SSS) that simulates the light that scatters inside semi-translucent materials, making character skin come alive;
- Anti-aliased masked materials that super sample the edges of masked and alpha-tested materials, making character hair more look realistic than ever before;
- Deferred rendering with MSAA support;
- Bokeh depth of field providing close to film-quality DOF, with artist-controllable Bokeh; and
- High-quality dynamic shadows from many lights on the environment, such as shadows for point lights and other light sources.

Edit: Watched. That smoke...
Some really good looking stuff.

Shame we'll see very little of it until devs shift over to the PC or consoles get an upgrade.
hasnt unreal 3 engine been out? Or am I wrong?
can i get a link to the vid? stupid school internet wont pop let me see the embedded vid
EDIT: AWWW SNAP that tesselated smoke looks badass. thank god the unreal engine looks like it's coming back to it's PC roots.
if you want a good game, download UDK, learn UnrealScript and various content creation software, and make your dreams come true.

i dunno, it's just another 3.X something. bulletstorm for example used 3.5 which introduced some new stuff like god rays and stuff.

Bulletstorm looked better than any Unreal Engine game I have seen to date so it definitely was some kind of improvement!

yeah it's definitely a nice looking game. still a console port though, so i just used my xbox controller.
Didn't someone update UT3 with the new engine? I remember seeing a youtube video of it.

Either way I hope Mass Effect 3 will have some of these features exclusive to PC ( Most notable DX11

Bioware has made their own proprietary engine and used that for the PS3 version of ME2, and will use it for ME3 unfortunately

Just like valve updates their Source engine, so does Unreal. I can understand the confusion though. Compared to their old slower system of releasing new engines with a new number whenever a new Unreal Tournament came out now they just update whenever they feel like it.

Speaking of which whatever happened to Unreal Tournament
