Hi,

I got my hands on a Zowie GS-AM today.

Made some pictures for you guys: http://imageshack.us/g/404/rimg0582.jpg/

My intial thoughts:
- Switches are terrible, needs modding with Omron for left right. Luckily Zowie added spare mosuefeet. out of the box not advisible if you didnt like mico.
- Wheel still uses optical solution, still feels lousy/subpar with mechanical rotary encoder.
- Wheel looks a little odd, as if it is dusty.
- Solder residues left over inside, some screws missing (pcb2 and front screw)
- No stress relief for the cable.
- lod, stops after 2 cd-rom. after 1 cd-rom it stutters.
- Lens is from kingsis

Forgot one key point: The gap between left and right key is too small, the buttons interfere with each other if you keep one pressed (other one can get jammed) - thats why there are several pictures of the gap.

As always no time for a real review, sorry.

The buttons hitting each other was also a problem on the Mico. It didn't pose a problem on there unless you were doing something where you frequently clicked both buttons simultaneously. You could probably file/cut the gap between them wider so that it doesn't happen.

I was playing Skyrim a lot with the Mico and dual casting spells was particularly irritating because the two buttons caught on each other every single time.

Out of curiosity, how did you get it so early?

Thanks Skar

That lens diameter is huge. (x1.25?) I thought they would be using a smaller lens, but this is intriguing.

Assuming the kingsis lens was originally intended to modify Agilent/Avago's early ADNS-3060 from 400/800 > Up to 525/1050 CPI....

1800 CPI x 1.25= 2250>2300. Placement could be modified either up or down~

Meaning... The two lower steps are custom values of around 340~ and 900. That is, if I'm correct

They're available in China. I was going to hot link some internal pics from another forum, but skar has better ones

Yeah I was forced to file down the buttons on my Mico to prevent them from hitting each other as the plastic was so thin and flimsy that only pressing the right click hard enough would cause it to twist over onto the left click.....

Skar's findings were fine with me personally because I like Zowie's Huano switches but when he added that edit showing that the AM also has this problem with the buttons clashing I know this will really piss me off. I don't want to spend $60 on a mouse and be forced to modify it to work properly like I had to do with the Mico. That's Zowie's job, not mine. Isn't that what we're paying them for?

Is the jitter after 1cd LOD bad? As a high sens user this really annoys me. The DeathAdder 3G sensor is perfect in this regard.

Huano switches - sigh. I know some like the switch, but from the Mico threads I've read most people don't.

Thx for the pics.

Never tried the Mico so I can't say anything about the buttons but I didn't like the EC mouse wheel for the same reasons.

The quality issues aren't a no-go for me but should still not happeb, especially not in a 60$ mouse.

how are the switches compared to EC series ? did you try to break them in ? my EC2 felt kinda crappy at first, the clicks were too soft and with not enough tactile feedback, they feel pretty fine now, please tell us about the tracking asap.

max perfect control speed @ 450dpi, any noticeable jitter, how does it perform @ 500hz etc

If they are the same switches as the Mico, they will be considerably heavier and more tactile than the EC.

What a let down.
I thought they were gonna use Omron switches for this one?
Huano are bad. The click is too stiff. Sure, you can get used to it after a while but it's nowhere near as good as Omron, because you need to put more force in your click, making it harder to click while moving the mouse (more force means less accuracy).
Also I hated the issue on the Mico with the 2 buttons hitting each other when pressed down at the same time (if you play BF3, where you need to hold right click to Iron Sight then left click to fire, you'll totally hate this mouse).
I thought Zowie Reps were browsing this forum and listened to the feedbacks, what happened?

The first batch of EC mice had Omron switches. It had a decent click with the Zowie shell. The Mico and Huano switches made my fingers hurt.

Same thing that happened to the SteelSeries Kana and TTC switches - money/profit margin.

Are we seriously saying that mouse left and right can't be pressed at the same time or they rub? W|T|F!!!! lol

Going to have to cancel pre-order until I hear more. For the price and how basic it is it really needed to be decent for me to buy it.

Pretty much. Zowie Mico had the same issue.
