Hey guys,

after a long search I finally found the perfect mouse for me in the Zowie AM.
Im currently operating it on a Artisan Hien hard.

I have the strange urge to switch mousepads every now and then... dont ask me why, but I really do need 2 different mousepads that I switch all the time, one day the one and the next the other etc.
Before my rotation was between sie HIEN and the steelseriece I-2, but I send that back as I didnt really like the glass surface.

So Im looking for a new Hard pad, plastic or aluminium or whatever, except for glass.
Things I value:

The bigger the better
the more durable the better
the more consistent the better

sorry to say the obvious

but I cant really be more precise.

If I had to chose blindly, with the the "knowledge" I currently have, I would say the roccat alumic, simply because it looks cool, it's aluminium (so it should be more durable right?) and even when it finally wears down I can simply flip it over and use the other side till that is gone as well.

but that is just my uninformed first pick, post whatever you consider the best!

also @ all the mouse pros, can the low LOD of the AM be a problem for hard pads? back when I had the deathadder/g9x/g700/xai the LOD felt way lower on a hard pad than it did on a cloth pad, Im fearing that this could be problem with a hard pad since the AM already has a incredibly low LOD.

thanks all!

Biggest I've found : Zowie Swift (plastic, a bit grainy, real consistent, don't know about durable, works great with AM)
Most durable : SteelSeries SX (steel, smooth, consistent, needs some kind of lubricant every now and then [silicon or sth], AM skips too easily with it)
Most consistent : SteelSeries 9HD (smooth plastic with very little roughness but very noticeable, it might last around 6 months of intense use tops, consistent while it doesn't get shiny spots, works great with AM)

The Roccat Alumic has an aluminium base, the actual surface in which you're mousing is plastic, exactly the same as the Razer eXactMat or Vespula (this last one I'm not so sure on the base material).

It's not a problem for the AM, usually hard pads are _less_ problematic when it comes to LOD/jitter as a rule of thumb. But just don't pick colourful mousepads

The mouse works great with black type mouse pad like SS Qck+ . But dont use the Team Edition or Colorful mouse pads the tracking becomes horrible I was testing it today n counter strike and the tracking just went all over on my NAVI pad

You may or may not have problems with the bright areas of the "backlit" logo.

I'm playing with a Zowie Swift blue (and 9HD + Razer Goliathus Speed, all of them have some graphics in a way or another) and I'm having no problems, but the colours are not too bright, not too close to white.

alright.
I had the zowie swift, gave it to my brother because at that time I had a g700 and that thing was just too heavy, the mousefeet and the pad had some adhesive "relationship", making it really hard to move the mouse from the get-go.
I was always overshooting my target, for example when I tried to highlight like 2 letters from a word I would instead mark the whole word and if that word was at the beginning of the paragraph I would also highlight that XD.

Even though the swift was textured and somewhat grainy it had a glossy feel to it, my wrist was literally glued to that thing.
other than that it was awesome.

the razer destructor had not the same problems, but it had bubble's between the actual plastic and it's coating/finish... that did not just forced me to return it but also highlighted that that thing just cant be durable or consistent for a long time.

In other threads I read quite a lot about ratpad or smth like this, why is it mentioned that often? what's so special about it?

Nah man, Im not gonna pay the shipping cost + customs tax from jap to germany... that's like 27€, WAY too much.

I was currently looking for the mionix propus 380 since it got some good reviews and is pretty wide, but I dont find any retailer in europe that has it in stock.
only exception is danish retailers, but they dont ship to germany...

Caseking.de has it, but it says on 10.02, almost a month till it's available. I got my propus from them.

I have ordered the Swift again, lets see how it performs with the AM.
It was my second choice after the propus 380.

Good choice, hope you got the black version, couldnt say much for the blue one, but tracking with the black one is spot on, if you want a slicker feel/less static friction, try out smaller mousefeet, maybe hyperglides ones, smallest ones usually feel better on hard mats, the texture of the pad will be more obvious too. Have fun with the new setup

@beute:

I've just seen this thread... so you used the SS I-2 with the AM and it didn't work? I'm asking because I'd like to buy the AM but it has to work on my Icemat as like the glide and I'm not willing to constantly spend money on new pads.

Try the Artisan Shiden or Shiden-Kai? Or even the Artisan Hayate?

May I ask how you like your Hien HARD? Is it so stiff that it feels like a hardpad?

Cheers!

Did you try the G-TF speed? I use it now with my AM. At first I thought "no that's no cloth pad, that's more like plastic!".
But in the end it combines some features of both worlds that just fit for my playing style.

It's quicker than normal cloth pads like a QCK. It's easier to start moving the mouse, the resistance isn't that high at movement beginnings, helps also when making small adjustements in aiming after doing fast swipes. Still it's nice and easy to accurately stop the mouse where you want it, so it's not too fast (like most hard pads are).

The only downside is that it's not as quiet as a cloth pad like a QCK, but still it isn't as loud as a hard plastic pad which kinda underlines my statement that it combines both worlds.
