Here is my unique situation:

So I have the opportunity to get a Corsair TX850 for 40 bucks new. V1 not V2. But I was leaning towards a 1000W for my new build. Will an 850W be ok running this? I realize there isn't much headroom. I wouldn't really consider the 850W except for the extreme discount. This would save me about 125-150 bucks in my build:

i7 970
12 GB Ram
160GB SSD
2 X 1TB 7200RPM in Raid 0
2 Galaxy GTx 465
Blu-Ray combo drive
PCI sound card
USB 3.0 capture card
liquid cooled kit

What do you think. Some calclators say im fine with 740 some say I need 910.
What would you guys do in my situation?

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeh actually there is. Didn't even read it right >.>

But yes 850 is still enough now that I've read it correctly.

As stated 850Watts is probably about 400Watts more than you'll actually use. The TX750 is reasonably efficient and has a good amount of cables, and is of good quality, so if you can get it cheap, don't mind non-modular, and an older design then it's perfectly fine.

But you will be very unlucky if you ever push past 500W on your rig. More likely you will be pulling 400W for your system peak.

EDIT: Oops 465, my bad. You'll probably hit 500Watts system draw with that configuration, but not much beyond that.

IDK if I would go that far. A 650 watt would be perfect for him IMO.

get the HX series
it supplies a continuous amount of power at whatever rating

Or you can go with a XFX 650 which is a SeaSonic based and way cheaper yet still modular...

I will probably go with the 850 then. You can't beat the price at under 40 dollars. And while not the best out there, from the reviews and feebdack Ive gotten it seems well built and relaible compared to many others. I'd prefer modular but for the price I can live with it.
For that price I would say go for it.

You have to remember that the wattage is not a strict determinant for the PSU your gonna need, if anything, break down your amperage usage and go from there assuring your getting proper amperage on each 12V rail or other rails to ensure you get a sufficient PSU

From what I can see, this 850W PSU is adequate and your going to be fine for now. For $40... just go for it, if the need be that you get a new one in the future, I'm sure you can deal with spending $40 for now

IMO I say goto www.ncix.com and check out their weekly special they got an ocz bstock refrub 1000watt for $34.50 after a $30 mail in rebate http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=58494&vpn=OCZ1000EXS-B&manufacture=OCZ%20Technology&promoid=1322
plus if your worried about it going bad just get the in store replacement plan which cost less then shiping a rma I pick one up a month ago and its still kicking and my rebate is on its way its a good value and I know there are a lot of people out there that bash this brand but I find it works well and the extended service plan is awesome no problems no hassle
