Hello,
So i have a e8400 3ghz with 4gb of pc-6400 800mhz ram with a msi gtx570 alogn with a intel 520 SSD

the new addition to my pc was the gtx570 a 750 watt ocz modular psu

i can run bf3 at ultra with no dips below 30fps ever online or offline.

also can run swtor max and wow max and never get below 40fps

my question is will i really see any improvment if i upgrade to a 2500k?
my current MoMo is only pci-e 1.1 also.

most ppl dont believe me when i tell them i run bf3 at ultra, i get maxx about 77fps in some areas. like buildings

will a new MoBO 2.0 pci-e with a new 2500 make a big difference?

i want to see a HUGE gain. or i think its not worth it.

all my games run fine maxxed out. and play perfect.

i know my MoBo is only sata2 and sata 3 will be better for my HDD

but again. im concerened that i wont see a huge improvment.

i mean if the games are running fine should i just wait for IVY BRIDGE?

it seriously maxxs all those games out at 1080p

and i have the intel DQ35MP MoBo

cant overclock anything with it. accept the ram. which wont allow me to boot if i change any settings but auto. (i have gskill pc-6400

i get 100% gpu usage when playing bf3 and about 75% when im getting good framrates.

Nowadays games are coming with support for more than 2 threads.
So you will see a huge difference not only on bf3 but on future titles.

It's up to you to wait for a future generation or not, but either way you will see a huge improvement.

I believe that you would need to take that dual core to as high as 5ghz to be able to max bf3.

BF3 single player or normal multiplayer doesn't represent how power hungry bf3 is. Try to run the game at ultra with your setup on a 64 players crowded server. No way for you to go above 30. fps!

IIf you upgrade your CPU, make sure to pick an overclock capable motherboard. Even if you are not into it, a mild overclock is completely worth the investment on a cheap and quieter cooler than stock like the 212+.

If your version of maxing is keeping 30 fps then sure I bet it is around there. 'cuz with both of my 460's and my 2500K I can't sustain 60 fps on BF3 "true" ultra. not preset ultra. (max AA, etc).

I upgraded from Q9550 @ 3.9GHz to 2500K @ 4.2GHz and I can say that BF3 really runs smoother even at STOCK 2500K vs OC'd Q9550..

I'm not saying that gameplay was choppy with Q9550 but it certainly runs better, with better min FPS and no occasional dips in FPS (it used to dip int 40es, and GPU usage dipped to ~80% with Q9550)..
With 2500K FPS are always above 60 and GPU usage is ~ 99% all the time..

CHEERS..

Thanks guys,
I think ill pick up a 2500k. whats a good mobo and cooler for it?
if it matters i have a top mount psu case.
incase if conflicts with cooling options.

i have some good cooling in my case as of now.

cpu never even hits more then 65C and my gpu is about the same under full load.

if everything runs alright now, (which is surprising, lack of cores, modern card, modern games, etc.)
then you don't necessarily need that big of an upgrade at the moment.
what i would do (and i AM going to be doing... also from an e8400)
is get an i3 2100/2120 and a good board, it hangs with the 2500k in gaming performance right now, and is super cheap.
now, the reason for doing this, is even though this is an intel platform, there is actually quite the upgrade line from i3 21x0, to IB
just my 2c

yeah. bf3 is stable at about 40fps avg. its very playable. and smooth.

wish i could feel what the difference would be on ultra with a faster machine.

but when i play online i use the auto settings witch puts everything on high with ultra texures and msaa 4x

I think the lowest my dips is around 40 FPS. You will definitely have a more smooth game play with a much higher min frame rate.

Yes you absolutely will notice a difference. I just went from a q6600 running @ 3.9ghz with a gtx 480 to a 2600k and it literally DOUBLED my fps in bf3 @ 1680x1050 on ultra settings.

I have a serious doubt that you can play bf3 on a 64man server with more then 30fps minimum, as I would dip down to the low teens myself.

So, since I just did this upgrade recently I can certainly tell you that it was the right decision.
