hmm,,, you have requested help in "the worst way"... Sadly interpretive dance works poorly on the internet, and I just don't have the stomach to write in l33t.

When I;m stuck with stuff like this where tracking down some stupid config option is going to take hours, I often go for the big hammer option and just reinstall the the drivers, which usually resets everything to default. Someone else may have a better option though. It;s kind of a clean the house with a flamethrower approach.

 

I did install the drivers. Newest and the ones that came with mb.

What other drivers can I install to reset audio

 

I'm pretty confused...
Please tell us which headphones and speakers you are using, and which connections you are using for them (as "headset" brings USB to mind...).

Same configuration i've ran for months. It just started doing this a few days ago and I can't remember installing anything new though i'm sure I did. I don't use system restore so no roll back.

 

um.. those. Argh. did you uninstall the drivers then install the new ones or update? We're trying to catch a wonky config file and reset it to default. windows reinstalls often cure all ills but that may be worse than the disease. Perhaps I should stick to the interpretive dance.

Has your BIOS setting for Front Panel Audio been switched from HD to AC97 or vise-versa?

Maybe switch that around a few times to see if it fixes it.

 

check you have no effects set on the headset output...sounds like you have some processing going on on that port.

 

Have you tried testing the back panel with the headphones?
If they work fine there then the problem is in the front panel settings.

 

I did a bios update on the z77x-ud4h last week so no idea if that would do this

I checked bios and all it has is to enable the audio but i'll look again for front audio type now.

No post processing on the headset

 

In the Windows sound options box, there's a 2 separate Defaults: one for Communication and one for Sound. Make sure these are BOTH set to the sound device you want to hear.

 

Under communications it says to mute other sounds or reduce volume by 80 or 50 or do nothing

Playback is the same as realtek, the headset has the green default check

EVEN on youtube when I watch with JUST the headset there is no voice, but the backgorund music and sounds come through..

Reset settings to failsafe, flash the stock F1 BIOS, and see if the problem persists.

 

Done and yes it still is doing it...

1. Put communication settings to "do nothing"
2. When the youtube is playing, check the windows sound mixer. There should be flash sound bar now.

Download Hirens Boot CD or a Linux distro. Boot to parted magic (hirens) or to the live environment of the distro. We need to see if this is happening in another OS. I'm on the fence now if this is a hardware or software problem.

 

Game sounds and no commentary



Even in SC2 I can hear some of the sounds and not others. I have no idea why this is happening and hate to reinstall windows

 

I still think software. An issue for only some types of sound??

Yeah its odd and when i plugged the headset into the back speaker port it did the same ?????????

 

This is one of the things I like about macs. There is only ONE allowed way to set a given function, as long as you stay out of the command line. windows has 4 or 5 features arguing about control and it gets all messed up.

 

well a reinstall is inconvenient but an option

 

hmmm if it did the same in the back port......is it the headset maybe? does it have any switches/settings of its own? Try another set of earphones, and see if it persists?

 

ok wll do so now, just makes no sense for a headset to selectively not play a something

The most obvious is the easiest over looked. Who would've thought a headset would only play background? Maybe a channel is out or a short ?
