UPDATE 04/22 you can get this monitor for $599 + tax in US. NO NEED TO PAY MORE.

UPDATE: 04/16 if you want to buy this monitor buy it from newegg, amazon or NCIX that way you will have no issues with warranty.

First seller of this monitor arrived from Korea.

IMy recommendation wait for Newegg to stock it themselves. It's a 3rd party seller from Korea not newegg.com. Ebay has it cheaper at $754 do some googling for Samsung U28D590D

This will hopefully bring 1440p monitors down in price too.
Can't believe this is coming out already at 1 ms amazing

60 Hz though, but then again i don't think you can even hit 120FPS on 4k even with 4 GPU

It's TN panel NOT IPS. Ebay is cheaper I see $754 from Korea free shipping Hmm not sure how much difference there would be between TN and IPS at 4K.
It shows TN panel with 10bit color.

They've been on ebay since the last week of February. I discovered it on the 27th and ordered it that morning from top_trading, but it didn't ship for a full week and now is scheduled to arrive Tuesday. Add in the US import duty that I am sure to be charged (I wonder how that even works?), and the price is closer to $800 than the $700 you see on Amazon pre-order.

Well it arrived today. Came with european power cord, but the supply takes 110-240v. No dead or stuck pixels and it looks very good. It does feel like it has a bit more input:rolleyes: lag than my other 2 screens, but it isn't bad by any means.

No idea if I am going to be charged an import fee or tax somehow. The Fedex driver did not require anything but a signature.

How is the color?
Also, do you need AA for games?

I don't know where my good camera is so I can't take a decent picture of it, but here is the screen:

please ignore the little red square that I accidentally added

To my untrained but not-at-all colorblind eyes, color is very good. Side by side with an ASUS VG248QE (TN built for gaming) and an HP ZR2740w (IPS not so much built for gaming), it clearly beats the Asus and matches the HP for color. I can't tell the difference anyway. This samsung monitor is a semi-glossy screen so white appears a little cleaner than both my other screens which are not glossy.

Definitely a TN panel, as you can see rather dramatically exaggerated in the photo, where the flat overclock.net background looks more like a gradient.

Input lag feels a little higher than the HP, which in turn feels a little higher than the Asus. But that said I'm not sure you'd notice it if it was your only monitor.

I'm feeding this with a GTX 680 factory overclocked slightly, and so far the only game I've tried is Natural Selection 2 which runs absolutely horribly at native resolution. 30 FPS in the refinery ready-room with AA OFF where I'm used to seeing over 100 FPS at 1920x1080 with AA ON

Jaggies are most definitely noticable with AA off. So you'll want it on, but you probably wont get to have it on. And other settings will probably have to go down too.

Also, based on some purely subjective tests with the blurbusters UFO test, motion blur is very nice on this monitor. I can't tell the difference between the blur on my ASUS VG248QE and this one. I probably could tell if I could find my good camera, but just eyeballing it, these monitors both are considerably better than my HP / IPS panel.

There are 3 Response Time options in the OSD. Standard, Faster, and Fastest. Faster is the default and looks the best. Standard introduces terrible motion blur, and Fastest introduces horrible negative-color ghosting. Basically I see no reason to use any setting besides the default, "Faster".

I have now tried the display with dual HDMI inputs. You can choose from any of the 3 inputs for each half of the screen in picture-by-picture mode. So you can in fact feed it two HDMI cables from one PC and get the full native resolution at 60hz. But as far as Windows is concerned, you have attached two monitors that both run 1920x2160 at 60hz via HDMI. So you have to extend the desktop and make sure the two displays are configured side by side, and then your taskbar only extends halfway.

So for windowed-mode games and web surfing this is fine, but for "fullscreen" games you'll need to set up something like eyefinity or nvidia surround or some 3rd party solution. I couldn't make nvidia surround work, but maybe that is just me being a noob.

Lastly, since my GTX 680 doesn't have 2 HDMIs, I used a DVI-to-HDMI adapter for the second output. That worked just fine.

I'm wondering if Yamakasi or the other Korean vendors will come out with a cheaper version of this? It makes me wonder how much Korean vendors will charge, considering 1440p 27 inch monitors run for $300 shipped EVERYDAY PRICE

Then comes the question...is it even worth it to go 4k and TN? I'm pretty sure 4k and IPS looks incredible....but I don't know if I can do TN....I can't wait for more reviews to go up in a few months though!

Will be waiting for IPS but that's certainly nice to see them popping up for a fairly reasonable price

As long as you have a DisplayPort on your GPU, it will be able to use it. It will do everything but gaming since it's way too big of a resolution to drive with just a 6970 (I don't even know if 3~4 of them will be able to handle it).

It's typically recommended to have at least a R9 290(X) or GTX 780(Ti) for 4K gaming, preferably two if you want maxed out performance.

Thanks for the link. It looks very promising once they move it out to IPS or PLS panels. I like how it sits low on the desk.

Ordered one from Newegg this past Saturday. Newegg said shipped on Monday. I went for the higher priced 3-5 day shipping. Hope I receive it Friday. It was Shipped UPS, so hoping to begin seeing tracking info tomorrow when it hits the states. The spec's look very good. 60Hz using DP1.2. They indicate its a top quality TN panel. Coming from Samsung, I'm sure it is.

This is very tempting. The only possible deal breaker would be the size. I would like something 30inches or larger.
