The Last of Us, is it just Uncharted with Zombies?

Hey

Can't wait for this game to come out after really enjoying the Uncharted series, but don't you think it looks like a clone of the series? I mean the lead character just looks like an older drake with a top hairy lip!

Here is a link to YouTube if you havent seen it already (can't figure out how to embed in here) http://youtu.be/p4pYIsaZqE0

Thankfully it doesn't look exactly like Uncharted with zombies. They seemed to put some effort into survival gameplay (doubt it will even be as good as the Metro games though), and the dynamic AI reactions shown in the videos is quite impressive. But I'm sure it will feel similar, hopefully the bullet count is much less.

Regardless I'm not excited for this game, I've spent too much time playing modded Fallout and modded S.T.A.L.K.E.R. which definitely spoiled me in terms of survival gameplay. I guarantee that The Last of Us won't come anywhere close in that regard. I happen to have a PS3, so I'll pick this game up when it's $10 or so. I can wait.

STALKER was more open ended though and had poor stealth.

The Last Of Us will be more linear (a plus to me) where there will be more important choices to be made that have more of an effect on the story line, your play style, and the gameplay itself.

It has a built in system where you can create weapons/gadgets on the go and it just seems much more "badass" to me.

Definitely a day 1 buy.

Modded Fallout does all of that too, and chances are it does a better job since The Last of Us has to be dumbed down considerably due to its target audience.

But it's good that a non-RPG like The Last of Us uses some RPG elements (bolded statement), sort of like Dishonored did. Fallout obviously has this too, and to a much greater extent since it's an RPG. It also has a crafting system, very good stealth gameplay, probably a lot more gameplay elements, and is absolutely brutal while Last of Us should be a walk in the park.

The Metro games are also linear, and I suspect will have much better survival gameplay and difficulty than Last of Us (and probably better stealth too). Time will tell if I'm right again.

To be honest, I liked the Uncharted series so much I wouldnt mind if The Last Of Us IS just Uncharted with Zombies.

IGN not only has horrible reviews, but have a very obvious bias and are probably paid off. One review, or even a number of reviews from big sites like IGN shouldn't affect whether or not someone buys the game. That's what the demo is for.

Do not really agree. I love IGN reviews and I usually agree.

Plus, this game is getting 10's basically everywhere. http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/the-last-of-us

Also look at N4G since you wont see all the small time reviewers on meta. Basically near 10's across the board.

About a decade ago they wrote decent reviews, but in recent years they've reduced themselves to writing summaries/overviews rather than reviews, that are hardly objective, not very critical, and their scoring system has always been ******ed (for example, if they didn't like the game, they'd give it a 7/10 in graphics for no good reason).

Maybe its just because I have the same over loving personality as some of their reviewers that I can relate to their reviews ( most of the time ). I'm a huge fan of Sony exclusives and the IGN Playstation team I feel is in the same boat as me.

IGN - 10/10
Eurogamer 10/10
Edge 10/10
CVG 10/10
Destructoid 10/10
Machinima 10/10
Adam Sessler 5/5
thesixaxis 10/10
Gamereactor 10/10

The reviewer Colin said in a podcast he can't imagine any game better out on PS3 thats better than The Last of Us and that its the best exclusive

I'd say its a combination of Uncharted and FarCry3

Looking forward to playing The Last Of Us tomorrow. Game looks like it will probably be the best shooter on the PS3 period.

I just finished up Uncharted 2 and I have to say that it blew away STALKER in every respect.

My problems with STALKER was that the story was not that great and it lacked linearity a long with stealth.

STALKER would have been much better if the stealth was there and there was more gun play and survival elements.

pretty much sold right there. the only reason this game wasn't a day-1 for me was I got too many other games to play first, but I think its fair to say I'm more than willing to shelf them for a game that tops Uncharted and has zombies.

cant say i agree with this... "uncharted like combat" meaning third person view? cuz i certainly dont remember where i could beat someone down with a metal pipe w/shank strapped to the end of it...

the things i have heard was that the guns ruined the game and i dont really see that either... most of the time, firing off a weapon that isnt the bow and arrow will alert every single person/infected around you.

the game is awesome, i absolutely love a game with a solid cinematic experience... the girlfriend has been glued to the couch, watching every bit of the game, as i play it.
