"This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales," CEO Tim Cook said in a statement. "The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we've sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone."

The most important thing to me with a phone is call quality and all else is just bells and whistles. Ever since I went over to a Galaxy Nexus I've had nothing, but call issues. More than half of my calls always ends up with loud buzzes or the other person telling me, "I can't hear you" or "You sound like a robot". This happened day one and after sending it back and then getting another one, same thing. Wife has a Galaxy Nexus also, same thing. So going back to something that worked for me, an iPhone.

I want an iphone 5s as well (going to wait until demand dies down and they're easy to get, though). That said, I hate using voice calls. I only do it when it ABSOLUTELY necessary when calling companies and what not - for contacting friends it is only text/imessages all day long here... only old geezers use voice for personal calls really. Texting/imessages all day long for me.

Then why go for the older Galaxy Nexus anyway? Its been known to be just 'decent'. LG Nexus 4 would have been smarter.

Ironically, I went from a Droid 3 (Verizon) to an iPhone 4S(ATT), and I've had SO many problems with people not being able to hear me and breaking up. I think it has a lot more to do with the carrier and your coverage area than the phone itself.

Yeah, its the carrier. I made the switch from Sprint to ATT, and the call quality went down the drain like you wouldn't believe.

I was using an iPhone for a long time and wanted to try something new. I wanted a bigger screen, experience LTE, and I wanted to do custom ROM's. Verizon doesn't have a Nexus 4.

I'm on Verizon and with iPhone's I've always had great quality, but once I changed it's when I started getting the call issues. Most of my buddies and friends grabbed the Galaxy S3 when they released and now they complain about how it has issues.

That's really what's important. My guess is that, like before, it's a stagnant market share, and this was (mostly) just existing users upgrading, rather than new people buying them.
There is zero reason to switch from an iPhone to an Android device for 99% of users and OCNers alike. And vice versa.

These sales are what happens when you make an excellent product. The only thing "hipster" here is Apple hate.

There are phones out there that are innovative, etc. But it all comes down to how good the call quality is. Can I actually whisper out a conversation and the other person can still clearly understand me? Can the Bluetooth feature allow for clear calls without distortion? Making me thing it was the setup in the car when in fact it was the bluetooth feature on the phone.

Good call quality is what it's all about. Trust me, you don't want to loud talk your conversations in a crowded environment. Or have to repeat something that you clearly stated.

The annoying thing is that those 9 million phones contain $15 million worth of gold. There's also silver, copper, plastics, and glass...

And approximately 90% of those 9 million phones will be thrown away, instead of recycled. And let's not even touch on the 9 million phones these new ones just replaced.

that's not really a factor, unless existing users are buying more than one iphone.

Simple fact is more iphones are being sold every year.

You could make that assumption on previous years, namely the iphone 4 to 5, but this is double the iphone 5.

besides, people speak at 150-200 wpm while only type at around 50-60 wpm on real keyboards and probably half that on touch keyboards anyway.
