Hi guys,

So I tried getting as close to my $1000 budget as I could.. I came up a little over.

I will not be overclocking the CPU.

Let me know what you guys think about this build. Any comments/critiques that can get it back down to around $1000 would be great.

I will mainly be playing new games at 1080p.

lol.

I'd get:

Mobo and cpu...why get unlocked if you won't over clock?
It's not really needed for a single 970 and you could save some cash.

Didn't notice the PSU.
I'd get a seasonic or an evga/superflower/antec/etc...

I made the mistake of buying cheap. (I bought the whole rig before I frequented the site)

I don't know much about the RAM and the PSU but I can vouch for everything else

3rd edit:

If you aren't going to OC, you can save some money by not getting an unlocked CPU.

That's a great unit for sure, but depending on your final choice of GPU could end up being significantly over-spec.

#12 ·
If you're not overclocking, get a Xeon and H97 motherboard. You shouldn't need an aftermarket cooler, either. If I get a break at work, I'll come up with something.

In that case, the 750w PSU is not needed and the cheaper XFX unit can be used.

This is a tad over $1000 before rebates. You can use the savings to buy The Witcher 3.

Edited because the original CPU I selected didn't have hyperthreading. Whoops.

Only Newegg? or any website?

I didn't even notice the original post only included Newegg items. If you're only looking at Newegg, my suggested build comes in around $1030. This can be brought under with a different case. Just pick one you like.

Edited to update the processor. Price becomes slightly more prohibitive.

CPU: i7 4790k can turbo to 4.4GHZ which will give you insta-like overclocking
CPU Cooler: enough to cool the i7 4790k upto 4.6GHZ
Motherboard: I own one and i can vouch that its one of the best mobos for that price
Memory: getting 8GB is like living on the edge get 16GB to be safe
Storage: Like you wanted
GPU: Like you wanted
Case: best case for under 100$
Powersupply: cheap quality unit and you wont need more than 520 for a single GPU

OR this if you would like a larger SSD and an Optical drive
