My studio XPS 8100 has no features for CPU overclocking except Turbo mode. However, it appears that there is a grayed out Clock Speed area in the same category. I'm wondering if I could unlock the BIOS or overclock the CPU somehow via BIOS modification or Software. As I recall SetFSB shouldn't work since they now use QPI. What can I do about this?

My system runs on 8GB 1333MHz RAM and an 860 i7 Core. Not sure if anything else is relevant but most of the system was customized from the default.

You could possibly flash Bios depending upon which motherboard it is. Any details on that?

I believe I have the stock Dell mobo that came with the Studio XPS 8100. I don't believe it's listed on the website and I don't think it came on the order receipt. Will it be listed in CPU-Z?

Personally, I'd say get a new mobo
Oh, the way I read it was as if he upgraded some of the parts when ordering it form Dell, not afterwards. Can OP confirm this?

The Stock settings seem to allow Dell's Turbo mode which in itself is a type of overclocking (ups clock speed in certain conditions). Doesn't this mean the hardware itself, without modification, is capable of overclocking?

It's probably limited to that...

Your best bet is to buy a new mobo, as everybody has said... unfortunately that is the case if you want to overclock.

What is your CPU Cooling? If it's stock, I wouldn't overclock in any case.

If I were to buy a new motherboard and a new cooler would I need to swap out any additional parts assuming my motherboard supports all my hardware? I don't think Dell ships any exclusive parts with their systems, but I can't be sure.

Hi,
I found a method to do overclocking of DELL XPS 8100 on the Internet.
It is this blog and YOUTUBE.

*I'm sorry.
Because it was the first note, I did not understand it how I could reply to Mr.n4ru.
Therefore I have written the same sentence in many places.
I want you to forgive it.

I hate to be the one to say this, but last year I was helping my brother-in-law with a Dell XPS 8940. He wanted to upgrade his motherboard and CPU. If the 81xx is similar to the 89xx, you're going to have a heck of a time making a new motherboard work. The PSU design is very limiting, you have Dell proprietary power connectors, so you're stuck replacing the PSU too. But again, you'll need to find one that fits in that area and clears the motherboard. It's really a nightmare and it required cutting the case to make everything "fit" - not fun.

EDIT: Realized I just replied to a 12+ year old thread someone bumped.
