I made my Xbox 360 cool much better than it did before
But I used the old hardware but was.... slightly modified
Cut out the back grills. This provided a nice boost of air flow. I think it was causing about a 20-30% air restriction!
I put take over top of the heat sinks. This forces air to be drown in through the front. This particually important in with the way the GPU is colled (which they did a piss poor job BTW!). Most of the air is being drawn through the CPU side of the air tunnel (which I will get to). After a few mods and some tape, I forced 1 fan to cool the GPU and the other to cool the CPU.
I am using the CD drive power to power the fans

Here is that air tunnel I was talking about. I took some cardboard to split the tunnel in half the best I could, forcing more air to be drawn in through the GPU (this helps eliminate RRODs based on GPU errors and issues, such overheating).
Here is an overview of how I added a potentiometer to control the fan speed on the 360 (which it is quite loud at full blast). I usually have it set to about 65% or so (based on sound and feel of the fan blades hitting my fingers).
My wiring block or whatever it is called. This allows easy and quick removal of parts
