My 360 never gets hot. I played 4 hours of GTA IV and it was cooler then 45C in all areas i pointed the temp laser.

I already knew about all that so

But my mod helps keep the damn heat away from the board by keeping things cool.

Its the fact that youre sapping power from the DVD header itself. theres simpler mods where you can jumper points on the board for 5v/7v/12v. wire up a 2 3 pot switches and you can toggle between 7v and 12v for each fan.

Also its more optimal for cooling if you only do 25% covered on the vent side for the GPU heatsink, and if you tape off where the shroud meets the fan, how many degrees you gain? idk

That is a good question but with an IR gun my temps on the GPU were like 70-80 or something like that before and now they run around in the mid to lower 60s.

i'm a little late to the party here, but if anyone's wondering if this really works, it does. i was wondering if it'd be effective, or not worth the effort. so after some research, i came across this thread.

i too cut out the metal/plastic blocking the air flow, and modded the heat director, didn't do anything else than that though (no different fan, or power modification.) before the mod, the air coming out was almost hot, no more than 30 seconds of the system being on. after? the air's BARELY warm, if that. this is after an hour of playing an hd dvd (the main thing that always over heated the system.) i'm very impressed with the difference.

it was free, just got some pliers, cut the vents out, and in about 15 minutes all heat issues are solved!

Eh not really. I just saw a mod similar but decided to make it even better.

:/ To truely solve any of the overheating issues you need to fix the promblem from within. Although your solution is sound it is no better than that cooler brick POS you can put on the back of the 360.

My friend and I made a 360 cooling box lol. It worked like a charm and my 360 never even got warm. The only downside was the noise.

That case is awesome, man. Would love to make something like that so I could rest my monitor on top of it to save space and elevate my monitor in the process.
