The CPU performance proved to be on par with the Motorola Droid X and other 1GHz Android offerings, but the GPU performance is a good 30 - 45% better than anything else on the market today. The new Super AMOLED display is also a huge improvement over the AMOLED screens we've seen in other Android phones.

Is it just me or does the res of the screen look horrible?

You gotta see it up close.

I like the hardware but the casing and slider doesn't feel great.... I'm torn now. I really wish the EVO had a bit better GPU...

The filesystem used is different I believe. It's why the Epic doesn't need the lag-fix like the rest of the Galaxy S phones to hit better performance. Apparently the Epic uses NAND memory while the rest of the Galaxy S line doesn't.

Edit: I read this over at XDA but can't find the thread at the moment.

There are differences but they should in theory perform the same.
...however, none of those have been tested by Anand.

i think they need a wider range of phones in that test bunch...but that being said. The phone is Epic. If only I had sprint... or if only sprint had good coverage...

I was making this decision a couple days ago and ended up going with the evo. I will say though.. if you are interested in technology so to a sprint store and just look at the screen.. it really is rather impressive.

as for battery life androids ability to be modified can really change anything stock. Switching data on and off while screen is off or underclocking while screen is off can give some really long battery times.

Thats just the AMOLED effect. From 1.5-2' away the screen looks amazing, but if you get too close you get this ugly checkerboard pattern. I'll take the SLCD/IPS panel on my Desire over S/AMOLED any day.

I really like a the galaxy s phones. I really know anything about them before I bought a droid x. I love my x but I wish I took a little more time. I probably should have looked for the strongest newish android phone I could. I beaten the heck out of the x already carrying it with me working. Though the droid x is pretty sturdy so I might have been the right choice anyways.

I went and tried the Epic and the Evo out today. The epic felt cheaply put together and the slide felt like it was wobbly and loose right out of the box. The other thing I noticed was that the color on the screen was so pronounced and oversaturated that it gave it a cartoony feel. I ordered 2 Evos. The build quality of the Epic seemed horribly under par.

Sprint roams on VZW. What more coverage do you want?
