Alright so I am a complete noob at all of this. I have no idea what steps to take and am afraid if I try to do this by myself I'll ruin my computer. So, any and all help would be appreciated. If you need any information on my computer specs, I'll try to grab it. So if anyone could help, that would be great.

If you have a prebuilt (Dell, HP, Gateway etc... ) you can't really OC without a new mb. You can "software" oc but its not very stable

Hi "noob"

.

Ive had the D830.
Start with posting some specifications. Download "CPU'z" and post a screenshot with that program.

What is your goal? Abit faster? Allot faster? They are known to become very hot those CPU's so with your stock cooler you wont be able to do much. Maybe 200-300Mhz max.

First off, how would i post a screenshot?

Second, What i want to do is start off by increasing the speed as much as possible without damaging anything or buying anything. Whether that be a small amount or a large amount, I don't really care. Don't know if this helps, but I don't mind taking off the case.

You won't be able to do much with it since it's a dell. Can we get a screenshot of the Mainboard tab in CPUz so we can determine the chipset? Depending on the chipset you may be able to software overclock.

dell motherboards can't overclock.

I beg to differ. I've done it via software and it worked quite well.

Oh Intel..... Yea I'm afraid you can't really do anything with that. If it was an NVIDIA or AMD chipset I'd be able to help you but I think you're pretty much stuck. Time to build yourself a computer!

setfsb and clockgen can be used to overclock some locked systems, but they're hard to use and i'm not exactly the guy to explain it.

No problem, but I hope that when you said you were buying a new computer, you meant you were buying parts to build your own computer. It's really not hard, but more like putting together an advanced lego set. Most cases even come with instructions!

If you need help choosing parts or with the actual build, just ask. We'll all be glad to help you.

Ya, I am definitely planning on building my own computer; so much cheaper. Of course, I didn't buy this computer, cause I would never purchase something so crappy lol. But ya, thanks for the help and I'll be sure to ask if i don't know what I'm doing
