This monitor blows. It has a crazy ass blueish tint to it that cannot be undone. I received this monitor yesterday from newegg, got it for a steal of 199.00 !! BUT IT SUX ASS !!!!!!!! I have done everything to take the "cool" out of it and so far no luck. If you need a big led monitor for cheap than get this one , if you can find another monitor i would suggest buying that one. This monitor looks like crap with a sony bluray player connected to it through hdmi. The only plus is it is super thin , but you cant wall mount it soooooo still lame. All in all LG pissed me off on this one, I stalked this monitor for about 7 months now and when it finally went on a crazy sale I feel like i should have bought another samsung.. I will put it in perspective , my 2 year old 47" LG tv looks AWESOME , maybe its the 120hz maybe not , im not sure. Playing on this monitor is sweet until you get up and look @ your tv or your other pc monitor than look back at this and you automatically want to punch a baby in the face... I feel a RMA coming soon..... Cause DAMN LG , *** !!! Im going to stick with samsung and sony from now on. LG just lost a customer for life...

p.s - please dont flame me that i shouldnt be complaining since i got a great deal. I would have GLADLY paid more for a better led.... Just my 2 cents

Oh YA ! I took off of work for 2 days becasue i can and i wanted to check this monitor out, i have played WoW / Bad Company 2 / Crysis / Counter Strike Source / America's Army 3 / Heaven Benchmark , etc.. The picture is sharp and the color does " pop / vibrant " but the blue totally kills any joy i have. When my white looks like icy snow or something , ****, i want to rage sooooo bad... Its basically like having a gtx 460 and trying to play metro 2033 maxed out.. Just doesnt work.... I hate this pc , i hate this damn monitor !! I WILL SELL MY SYSTEM FOR CHEAP , HOLLA !!!

Lost a customer for life from one faulty product? If that was the case, I'm out of HDD manufacturers

Mess around in the settings. My monitor looked all washed out when I got it, changed it to "Theater" mode and it's been gorgeous ever since.

You do not understand..... It isnt possible to fix this monitor. I literally have 4 hours of adjusting sunk into this monitor.. ONce you think its perfect you look @ your other monitor or tv and damn , just makes me angry... If you have know of a better way to adjust this please let me know.... From the 100 reviews i have read , its impossible.. I thought those people were just tards " most people who write reviews on products are morons, dont flame me we all know this" Take if from a gamer who has been gaming for 10 years... I have been through alot of monitors , alot of video cards , alot of everything....

This is why I stopped buying LG. They dropped the ball on overall quality (panel/build quality). I stay far away from them.

Atm the few panel manufacters or "vendors" left are:
Dell (IPS line ONLY, they're TN panels are less then favorable)
Samsung (prelate 2010, they're starting to drop the ball on build quality/sometimes panel quality)
Asus (Chi mei)- Budget/decent performance
Acer- Extreme budget/sub average performance but at least slightly better then most manufacturers in their range.
NEC
Planar (not too sure if you can find many of these monitors- and havent seen any in person in a few years.)

Hm, I just got mine 2 days ago and I don't notice a bluish tint. But I got to admit, it was crazy bright/high contrast when on default settings. I messed around with settings and now it's perfect.

Ok , please give the a full model list of all tvs / monitors in your home please. If your rocking some crappy vizo's or something than you may or may not notice the difference. The blue tint isnt noticed by just me , there are thousands of reviews *****ing about it all over the web. I was just foolish enough to believe that I could some how make this monitor " AMAZING ". PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO MAKE IT PERFECT !!!!!!!!! PLEASE GIVE ME ALL OF YOUR SETTINGS PLEASE !!!!!

Hook your bluray player up to it through hdmi and than tell me what you think. It looks like boot leg plasma or something. I just expected it to look alot better than it does , considering i stalked this monitor for almost a year... I wasnt sure if i should buy this monitor for 400 bux or just buy a 120hz 40 inch sony or something ... I think im gonna go with the sony hahahah , this is a broken monitor forsure.. HOW COULD THEY EVEN RELEASE THIS PANEL ?!!?!?!

YA i think im done with LG also , i have bought their " flag ship " models twice only to be let down.. Anything wrong with picture quality instantly puts me in a bad mood. Videophile or w/e. I have their scarlet tv model , which has very very nice picture except sometimes in 120hz mode the image will mess up on hardcore action scenes , or fast paced scenes and the black level isnt up to par, other than that its sweet looking with AMAZing picture. This monitor has decent picture dont get me wrong. Its mainly that blue tint over everything, makes me want to punch this pos and just buy a 40" and be done with it.... See me raging ? I can kinda tell its bluish in games , but alot of the time i cant notice.. Mainly web pages i can tell because the white doesnt look white.

This thread is in the top 5 results when you google this monitor and it is the 2nd time I fell for the title. I had to register and reply, just to defend my poor W2486L.

First of all, the OP made this display look as bad as a display can get. Yes, it comes nowhere close to a good IPS panel, but it still looks far better than most TN panels I've seen and especially the new 120/144Hz ones.

He complained about a blue tint that cannot be corrected. Obviously, he had never tried a proper calibration on the panel. The truth is that the native white point of this monitor has an approximate Correlated Color Temperature of 8800K and looks too blue and green compared to the D65 white point. However, our eyes have an excellent built-in white balance. Only minutes later, we can't be sure about the white temperature of a display without looking at a reference white.

As long as the greyscale has the same white point across the whole range, it should look neutral to our eyes. If not, color casts appear at the (supposedly) grey shades which our eyes can notice very easily. My panel has never had a bluish cast in the greyscale. On the contrary, there is a slight yellowish cast in the midtones, effectively lowering the CCT at those levels. Nothing excessive though, as the ΔE*00 in the greyscale is always less than 4.

But the OP made a tragic mistake: he kept comparing uncalibrated displays. The chance that two uncalibrated monitors will look the same is extremely small, especially for monitors at this price range. Comparing monitors with different panels and/or backlights only makes the match even less likely to happen. The only safe conclusion that can be drawn is that the LED backlight of his monitor is cooler than the one of his TV. This says nothing about color reproduction, color gamut, contrast or tone response.

Actually, at factory defaults, this display follows closely the sRGB Tone Response Curve up to 80% luminosity. Then the highlights become lighter than they should be, leading to crushing of the extreme values. It's still pretty good for an uncalibrated response.

The native contrast ratio of my 4-year-old panel (manufactured 1st week of 2010; bought 1 month later) is around 800:1. After calibrating to D65 white point, 120 cd/m2 and gamma 2.2, it drops to 570:1. This is because around 20% of the green and blue values are sacrificed to lower the white point CCT from 8800K to 6500K, as you can see in the calibration curves graph below.

The gamut of the monitor covers 96% of sRGB which isn't bad either. It exceeds sRGB in the yellow-green and deep blue regions, but there is a small undercoverage in the reds.

So, if someone would want to change the native white point of the monitor, all he has to do is use a proper calibration tool such as a colorimeter or spectrophotometer. As a starting point, I will give you the monitor settings that bring MY display to D65 and 120 cd/m2 state but you have to keep in mind that no two monitors look the same and you should use a hardware calibrator for the best results.

Watch out though: changing the Contrast, Color Temp, RGB and Gamma sliders using the monitor's OSD results in banding of grey gradients. It looks like the internal color processing engine is limited to 8-bit. So, if you have a video card with 10-bit LUT, you should reset the monitor to factory defaults and leave it alone. My HD 5850 has 10-bit LUTs. Calibration through software LUT alone seems to give the smoothest results. You can still change the brightness slider (unless PWM backlight flickering at 250Hz bothers you).

If you need a system wide calibration for use with games or other programs that reset the video card's LUT, you can use these values:
Brightness: 40
Red: 50
Green: 28
Blue: 26

Leave the rest at defaults.

These settings bring my monitor's white point to D65 and its white level to 120 cd/m2. The native gamma remains unchanged.

You could also download the following ICC profile with embedded calibration curves and use with Windows calibration (or any program that loads calibration curves to the video card LUT). Remember to reset your monitor to defaults if you use software calibration. This profile can be used by color managed programs to display images and videos at proper gamma and color. Fully color managed freeware include Firefox, MPC-HC and XnView. Also, included are the measurement reports before and after calibration+profiling (HTML files).

Here's some proof that I own the monitor (taken with Nokia N8).
