Strange question...i got cataclysm for christmas, and added the cd key to my battle.net account.

Since I wasnt playing wow, i reinstalled it disk by disk (original, then burning crusade, then lich king)

When lich king was done installing, I was ready to install cataclysm, but the wow installer started downloading a huge 8gb "patch" of some new content..was that cataclysm? or do I still have to install the cataclysm disc?

Is there any way to see if I am actually running the expansion? Thanks..hope my question makes sense...

If it lets you play then you are good to go. It's a download while you play client now. You can also enter the game and then re-open the launcher, that will give you increased DL speed over the in-game download but it will eat up more bandwith. You should be able to DL the entire game through the launcher.

Yep, once the key is registered to your account, you're good to go. The disk is pointless, as the updater will patch you up to that level automagically. You get the old world shattering changes anyway, cata or no cata.

it already patched fully..went pretty quick, surprisingly i was downloading at 3.3mb/s...not sure if its FIOS to thank or i just got lucky and not many people were downloading at that time

looks like im all set then, thanks, everyone!

Actually, all you needed to do was to install the Cata disks. It has everything on it for the original and all expansions. All you needed to other games for was the CD keys. Seems like a waste but I've never actually installed WoW from a disk yet. Just cracked open to the boxes to get the keys.

The disks are usually a few versions (not expansions) behind. If you install the Lich King, and patch it up, it'll patch upto the newest version for people without Cataclysm. If it finished installing the lich king, just click away the patcher, and install Cataclysm. Patching the lich king and then installing Cataclysm is a waste of time.

I don't think it does. I am pretty sure it would be hard to cram ~22gb worth of files on the one disc.

No disc is necessary for WoW anymore. You can just download everything as long as your account has the required expansions associated with it.

Yeah you should be good to go. All the content should be there via the updater. Then once you put in your key it unlocks. When I installed BC the other day it wouldnt even let me use the disc. I just put my key in and it downloaded another 800MB or so of stuff and I was good.
