My 8800GTS 512MB GPU just ran on OCCT stress test for about 5 minutes or so. Seems like it maxed out at around 91 degrees Celsius. And my case has 4 fans installed and my cable management is really good for the case. So is 91 degrees Celsius too hot for this card or is that normal? It idles around low 50s. I just reset to stock settings as well seeing as how my OC wasn't stable according to OCCT.

that seems perfectly normal for full load, most cards are rated for temperatures above 100 deg celcius, its just people seem to think its really hot but it is infact ok.

Mine holds at about 52C with full load. It used to be about 70 before I added a high CFM fan to my exhaust radiator which pulls a lot more air through the case.

I can't comment about Nvidia but my ATI xfx 5770 only gets to 80C when testing/gamin with my fan down to 30-35%. Its completely quiet at those speeds. But while I game/stress test I run my fans at 65-70% and it stays in the low 60's high 50's.

65% and hell, I even turned all the case fans to high and gpu fan to 100%. Reached 91 Degrees again, lmao.

90C is technically fine since the max temperature for the 8800GTS is 105C. I'd suggest trying to get the temperatures down. You could try replacing the Thermal Paste on it, if you haven't done it yet or done it in along while the paste could be dried up.
Thermal paste on a gpu? What do you mean?

Yeah, while 90c is "okay" by many people's standard's and the card's itself, really you should be hitting 75-80c if possible.

Like people have said, carefully remove the shroud and Heatsink from the GPU (once removed from the PC of course). The heatsink, shroud and fan will most likely have aload of dust clogging it up, give it a good clean, use paper towels to remove the old Thermal Paste off the GPU (much like a CPU), and then replace it with some good stuff, and put it back together.

Make sure you have some Thermal Paste before you take it apart.

A can of air helps lot here, makes a mess though.

Try opening the card up and see what you find
What do you mean by reference?

I see, so most people on here after a while remove the heatsink and reapply thermal paste?

Are there any videos about taking off the heatsink and reapplying the thermal paste? As I'm not too sure about the method here or how much to put on. Do you see temp changes right away or no?

you can use the link in this thread that shows you how to add fans. Since I suspect you are new the first thing I suggest is dont take anything apart and use a can of duster (outside or in the shower so you can contain the mess) and blow the hell out of it. Hell I use a gas powered blower to clean my stuff sometimes (lower power) works great. Try cleaning the heatsink and get any dust out of your card then check temps. If they are still high its time to replace the tim as stated earlier.

Here is a guy on youtube who has five videos on how to clean and reapply thermal compound on a 8800 gt. Just go to his uploads.

But to clean the heatsink won't I have to take the card apart to do that? When I rebuilt my computer last week, I did spray the hell out of the card to be honest. Same with Tuniq Tower.

did you literally stick that little plastic aimer thingy into the heatsink itself? If so its time to take the card apart as per the videos above and apply some tim. Dont take it apart until you have some tim on hand tho. as5 would work if your on a budget but I suggest ic7 or shin etsu for top of the line stuff. mx3 works good too and isnt conductive. If you are new I suggest something non conductive with no curing time.
