What in your opinion is the best laptop screen size for the college student?

I just bought this one what do you think?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101241

As you can see, my rig sig is for my gaming, and I bought this purely with the intent of microsoft word and excel and other school work.

What's the best size for a screen and regardless, what is your favorite? Do you know how you can tell if I can upgrade this laptops RAM? I'm don't know to much about laptops.

The laptop runs amazing for recertified BTW, looks brand new, functions perfectly, would recommend to anyone via newegg recerts.

Thanks.

Hi yeah that laptop should be fine for college work i use mine (sig) for college use and casual gaming i.e borderlands wouldnt worry about more ram unless u see it using 3gb or more i upgraded mine from 3 to 6gb ram purley because needed it to run vitual machines

as screen size goes i've allways found 15.6 to be the best for laptops love mine

Thanks. Yeah, I like the screen size, not too big, but not too small.

If it were any bigger it wouldn't fit in my backpack. I guess 17" is considered desktop replacement and not really a laptop? I was really surprised how awesome it was for being recertified, windows booted up fine, and I installed all necessary updates. I already removed some of the bloatware and cleaned it up a bit.

Thanks .

First of all ive never seen a "College" laptop that stayed "for school" for long. Even when there is a gaming tower involved.
Secondly, 15.6" is usually the best size for me too. Small enough to be carryable, big enough to do what is needed.

Haha, true. I have my tower, and I don't live on Campus, so I don't think I would ever choose to game on a laptop, even if it was a really nice laptop, when I have my desktop setup.

15" was perfect for me. I had a Macbook Pro.

I like the Dell 1545 for some reason, the specs are more than enough for Word and Excel, supports 1080p playback and an optional Blu-ray drive, and its screen is a 15.6" 1366x768 so its good enough. The price was around $400 NEW when I got it, but I upgraded a few things like the ram from 2Gb ram-3Gb and I upgraded the intel WIFI. It goes for around $250 used or refurbished

The m11x has good screen density (?), more pixels per inch, so you can get the same resolution with less physical screen size.

Oh, my friend has that laptop as well. It's very durable (as in will remain functional), but if the screen is exposed to constant pressure (i.e. textbooks) the screen will be washed out in that area, however, it will return to normal after around 2 days with no pressure? Go figure. Also, the keys use very soft plastic, so will become very shiny quickly.

Somehow my friend was able to snatch one of these up with a 5650? I don't even see a 5650 listed as an option if I go to Gateway to configure one.

Since I've my sigrig, I bought an Asus UL30A.

I have my sigrig for power, so with my laptop I focused exclusively on portability and battery life, and the UL30A fit the bill. 13.3" screen @ 3.7 lbs with 10 hours of real-world battery life from normal usage.

After a year with it, I have to say it's an excellent laptop and I wouldn't trade it for another model.

Asus G73..I'm in network administration, I use Linux, Windows and Novell.

8GB ram and the (altough it's MOBILE version) i7 is pretty cool.

I use the 5870 to play and stuff at friend's, at my mom's house and stuff.

Although, it's damn heavy, but I bough a 100$ bag at Future Shop and it helps. It get's heavy but it's pretty useful. I run 2-3 VM while people do them 1 by one on school's computer.

Depending on what you use it for, I would use a 15,6

15" ftw. It is the best compromise between portability and usability imo. However, I personally prefer higher resolution screens. Mine is 15.4" and 1600x900, I would prefer the 1920x1080, but that was $200 more. It isn't the size so much (if you have good eyes) as it is the resolution. (The higher the resolution, the more you can fit on one screen)

As far as gaming.. most people will game on their laptop, especially if they live off campus. LAN parties are awesome. My laptop has an i5 and an nvidia 3100.. kinda bad, but it can play L4D2 etc.

thanks for the input guys.

I got it, and it runs awesome. The i5 is hella fast, and the Intel HD graphics should be just enough for school work and occassional youtube videos and such

The 15.6" screens just right on size; around near the size of my bigger text books and the desktops I will be using it on.

I STILL much rather use my rig sig for regular use and gaming though

Thanks again guys.
