I have an OCZ 550W 24A +12V power supply and am considering dropping in a GTX 560Ti card but I see power requirements for it are a 500W power supply (check!) but that it also requires 30A on the +12V. That is according to the Newegg page for the EVGA model.

Is that correct? 30A? Maybe I am not calculating my amperage correctly for my PSU.

Any remarks? Suggestions? Advice [besides links to new psus on newegg:)]?

Is 550W ok? I know it says 500W minimum. I don't have much to spare especially with an overclocked X4.
Yeah, you add all of the +12V rails to get the total +12V amperage. And yeah, 550W is absolutely fine for your system (including the GTX 560Ti of course).

absolutely wrong ...u cant add up the 12v directly...to the op if u had 50amps on 12v it means u have 12x50 watts=600watts hows it possible ur psu is 550 watt....
now on topic urpsu would be giving u max 40 amps combined on 12v rails so u would be fine with a gtx 560 go for it......

to make it more clear the op's psu has a max rating of 450 watt on 12v rails...so basically it means 450/12=37.5 roughly 40 amps...although they have stated 25 amps per rail but they r not supposed to be directly combined....it just states that each rail is capable of providing 25 amps at peak individually and not combined....hop that clears out the rail amps doubt....

Sorry for ninja-ing the thread, but my problem is similar and I thought perhaps someone could enlighten me...

I should probably figure this out after reading this thread, but my lesser mind is incapable of understanding all the crazy PSU values and stuff. So here's my question:

I'm buying a new computer sometime soon. One I'm looking at is made of:
- Intel i5 2500k cpu
- Asrock P67 Pro3 (B3), P67, DDR3, SATA3, USB 3.0, RAID, GBLAN, ATX, LGA1155
- GeForce GTX560Ti Gigabyte 1024MB, DDR5, miniHDMI, 2xDVI, PCI-E Super OC 950/4580

Now my question is. I've got a Chieftec GPS-500AB-A power supply hanging around, unused currently. Can somebody tell me if it can handle the set-up I've mentioned? Or at least the non-SOC version of Gigabyte's 560 ? Or will I need to buy a new PSU?

Thank you in advance

That's probably enough but I would get a higher quality PSU so those parts get good power.

Welcome to OCN.

Your PSU does 30A on the 12V rails for the total of 360W.

It should be fine running your new parts however don't overclock your CPU too high. because a heavily overclock i5 2500K with a GTX560TI can consume all 360W of the 12V rails.
