If you have a 120Hz Lcd do you still need Vsync? And if you use Vsync on a 120Hz lcd does that cap the FPS at 120?

Yes it caps FPS at 120, v-sync is limiting the game to the highest vertical sync of your monitor (which would be 120hz)

V Sync caps your frames to your refresh rate. So if your refresh rate is 120 then v-sync won't let your frames pass that.

This is true for real 120 Hz, for a tv it is a little different since the tv adds a fake frame to create 120 hz.

Just try it out and see if it improves your experience.

So in theory in a game like BC2 on a monitor with 60hz and Vsync on your getting 60 FPS and on a 120Hz your getting 120 FPS.....dam that's twice the FPS...nice...

Assuming your video card can produce constant 120 frames.

V-sync on a 60 hz monitor is good because it reduces screen tearing from having very high fps on 60 hz. Consistent frames I think provide smoother gameplay than crazy FPS spikes IMHO

But like I said just give it a shot and see, its just a click away

With VSync on, you can get up to 60/120 but only if your system is capable of it. If your system isn't fast enough to go above say 40 FPS then regardless of what monitor you have, you won't go above 40 FPS

I have the settings on bc2 so that I get 80 - 150 fps, and I leave v sync off. For whatever game you're running, make sure it's running @ 120 Hz. Most games I've been playing recently do this automatically; I believe their detecting desktop refresh rate and matching it, so make sure you're running 120 Hz in windows as well.

Back to the point: I never run v sync because my experience with it is that it introduces output lag. I never experience shearing or tearing when my frame rates are @ ~60+ but I do notice it if my gpu's struggling,; i.e., <40 fps.
