I was wondering if there was a comparison done between MountainMod and CaseLabs cases. I'm interested in the quality, customability and layout aspects of these cases. Anyone have any experience with both? One thing that drew me to mountain mods was that their U2-UFO and Ascension cases could hold two motherboards on each side.

Several points you made are huge selling factors for CL cases. They come assembled, they're packaged for shipping so even when the jerk at UPS drops it off the dock, it's not damaged. I have always wanted a CL case... I haven't seen MM cases in person but from what a friend told me he didn't love his so much for the reasons mentioned previously in this thread. The impeccable CS that Jim provides and the impression he gives off is a very important thing IMO. I have nowhere near the funds for a CL case but he still answered my questions. CL FTW!

I have owned several MM cases and because the cost is comparable to CL cases, you can't compare the two. For the time when MM cases came out they were great, but as many have mentioned already, they look too industrial with the screws, no cable management whatsoever, you end up modding them to fit your needs, they cost a fortune for what you get and they haven't done anything new since the hyper modulars came out. Personally, I won't be getting another MM case unless they do something new. Just sold off my last one a month or so back. I wanted to get a CL case, but ended up doing a desk build with everything internal, but otherwise I was saving up for the CL case. CL cases are phenomenal and incorporate a lot of unique features. Granted, I like my MB horizontal for ease of working on, but that isn't that big of a deal when the MB tray can be removed like the CL case does. Seriously, there isn't a reason to even consider a MM case anymore due to the various competing cases that do much more for the same price. By the way, the XSPC knock off of the MM case is in the same boat as the MM case, nothing unique, no cable management and way to expensive for what you get. If you are going to spend $400+ on a case, why look anywhere else unless you needed something custom in which case the MM cases wouldn't be on your radar anyway.

I already know that I have planned for at least 2 more Case Labs cases in the coming future. I am awaiting their single wide mATX cases in hopes that it I can put together a system that my wife would approve of for her computer aesthetically. Then past that I am looking at possibly setting up a server only case or updating my HTPC's- but those are all waiting on the new CL designs hehe... my MH10 and Jim's work with the other cases have made it difficult for me to look at any other cases without wondering how much better a Case Labs version might be...

Only reason to go for MM case today, would be a custom order. That is their main advantage, you can order your own panels and make something exactly that suits your needs. It is expensive though, so are their standard models, which are imo too expensive for what they offer (very simple design, they must be incomparably cheaper to manufacture than caselabs products, but yet they are often even more expensive).
As for the toolless design, thumbscrews ect. I wouldn't really take it as such disadvantage, that you for example have to asembly case that is shipped in parts. These products (both MM and CL) are meant for enthusiast market. Sure it never hurts if there are features that improve them, but really, average new owner of these products, will not have problems with using a screwdriver. We are talking here about people who sometimes invest few days just to route power supply wieres. If you want just put your gear into the case, in 10 minutes, you buy some cheaper maistream plastic/steel case (like cm haf) not a 500$ product.
Anyway I feel like MM needs to improve their designs, or drop prices if they want to compete against caselabs. Caselabs is not that well established yet, but it will going to change quickly. So far I don't really see a competition that could stand a chance, given the quality, prices and amount of new models. This is another great feature, that there are still new cases to be released, process of improving and expanding offer never stops.

MM - their big, custom panels and horizontal MB, for this you get no cable management, custom panels that must be customized even more to really have it work, for all this I end up paying with options and all more money
Caselabs - just as big if not bigger depending on options, Pedestal and extended top panel allow me to do a better set up then I could in a MM, no Horizontal MB unless I go TX10 and that's just too big, for all this I get nice cable management, Horizontal and vertical trays to hold fans or whatever I like, nice cable routing options same for tubing with even ports at the top, MB panel that slides out and doors that swing open. It would be a lot easier to build a better looking machine then anything I could ever do with a MM.
I haven't done a build in years and stumbled upon MM first and was all set to buying one until I found the TH10 and now I can't ever go back to MM again not for what you pay and what you get.
