Question is in the thread title. You don't have to be exact but a well-educated estimate would be auspicious. Also, perhaps include how many games you think you have installed.

Reason I ask is my 128GB SSD is too small to run my OS, programs, AND game installations. I am trying to gauge whether a 240-256GB SSD would be enough or if I need to go bigger. My Steam folder is approximately 100GB.

In addition I have Battlefield 3, Skyrim, League of Legends, and Starcraft II installed. I might have more soon too.

Do you think a 128GB SSD for programs & OS with a 240-256GB SSD just for games would cover it? I will uninstall old games too.

Well most of my games live on my 2tb hdd until i need to play them. I dont play many games at once and its a simple drag, drop smoke and check cache. I dont need every game i own to be playable on a whim.

My current windows installation + games + apps takes up about 100gb of my 128gb ssd and i dont want it to go any further than that.

Storage wise, i have about 500gb worth of games. Not so sure on size installwise. Maybe 40gb?

I should note, I don't have all of those games installed at the same time. I uninstall and install when i feel like replaying some of those games. those 500gb are backups and digital downloads and isos and what not.

You would have more than a 100GB free for other games.
Thank you for that gracious estimate! +rep. My confidence in my future investment has been restored

Can you go into further detail about how you move your game installs so painlessly? Greatly appreciated.

Just drag and drop then restart steam, i think i start an install through steam sometimes; stop the download drag and drop then restart steam. There is also a way you can make an exe using steam which is an install package. Just run the exe and it installs the game again.

Trying a drag and drop as we speak, its been a while since i have run another game on my current install.

Edit: Yeah just start the install, close steam copy it over start steam back up then verify the cache and you are set.

I've got about 400-500GB in total on my computer and this windows install has been in use longer than any I've had to date.
That's with about 100GB of backups from my brother's laptop and PC too.

Guessing, I'd say I've got about 75GB of games at most. I usually uninstall them when I'm not using them but I've been a bit lazy this time around.

Wow, that's brilliant!

I've only got Skyrim on my SSD. I use Steam Mover to put which ever game I'm playing the most at that time onto my SSD.
Steam Mover works for non-Steam games I have heard. Is it difficult to setup?

Please use the edit button instead of double posting.

Nope there isn't any set up you need to do. Just browse to the game you want to move and set the location you want it moved to. Very simple.

Alright, BFBC2 is giving me issues installing using this method; hate you Murphy.

Anyway i swear it has worked before =P

But yeah you can backup your games using steam "backup game files" when you right click on a game in your library; then reinstall using the exe that it made.

you can also just drag the whole steam directory across, delete ClientRegistry.blob, and start steam. It reconfigures all the registry when you load steam for the first time, and everything works afterwards, I've never had an issue doing it via that method

well i have a 120 gig ssd.

it is more than enough for me and i have a few games installed on it as well.

i also keep my games to a minimum to save space and clutter on my rig.

i hate mess and things all over.

i have mw2, mw3 and sega genesis installed on my rig with win7 office outlook etc.....

as in buying a second ssd to just do your games. if you got the $$ do it. then there is no worringing over space etc..

and a 240 gig will def do the job.

My games folder is 234GB. Hmm, that's quite a lot, considering I don't have that many games, lol.
