Overclocking in CCC is the worst.. im sorry but its true.. no voltage control.. and a limited oc of the core , if you want to OC higher you have to hack the driver with regedit key to remove the limit.. not so friendly to OC...

Those who use saphire trixx do it only for the voltage control, I wish MSI afterburn can control my voltage because I use it anyway for the FPS and temps on corner of the screen while gaming.

Same here anything after 12.4 is a flickering mess.

Some people are saying that the idle clocks for the memory are going too low and causing the issue (like the old 4xxx series problem), making a profile in CCC and adjusting the clocks help. Not tried myself but don't see the reason why I should have to

Is this still being a problem with last CATALYST drivers using this version? TriXX OC Utility V4.3.0

NOTE:

Add the overvolte support to Sapphire HD 7950 and HD 7870 series.
Add OC and HW monitor support for HD 7850 and HD 7700 series.
Add new feature to adjust PT limit in TriXX.
Fix ULPS issue in CrossFire.
Fix overclocking with Catalyst 12.2+ (is this bull****??)

Got the same issue on my HD6850. Turns out that Trixx is doing it. Overclocking in CCC or Afterburner does not cause this, but Trixx turns my screen into a flickering mess.

This just started happening to me like 10min ago, I have been running my 6950 on the default max overclock for the past 6 months and this has never happened. Today I decided I was going to get a better overclock out of the card, All I have done is edit my MSIAfterburner.cfg and applied the default max overclock now suddenly this happens. Not once did this happen before and like I said I am only using the max overclock that CCC allows

So this is an issue with Afterburner and the way it controls / detects the 2D and 3D clocks? I just tried to overclock my 5850 and had to resort to enabling the unofficial overclock mode on Afterburner; core clock was fine but raising the memory just makes it start doing this. Even resetting the clocks back to default doesn't fix it until reboot (the PC actually rebooted because I let it keep going once.) Thought I maybe stressed the card too much after all the furmark testing.

Going to go through the Sapphire Trixx thread but that made my PC lock up when I changed the clocks though it could be because I was using CCC to overclock before (was still open with Overdrive disabled.) I have a Sapphire HD 5850 Vapor-X so I can't adjust the voltage on my card with either programs.

Edit: Forgot to mention; I don't really want to get rid of PowerPlay as I leave my PC on.

Just started to come across this problem.
It's because afterburner and CCC are competing with the 2D clocks (Hardware acceleration wants to set it to 500mhz core and whatever for the memory and afterburner wants 250/350)
So you get screen flickering from the constant swapping of the clocks.

It's a pain really, the only fix I know of right now is to manually use CCC to swap resolution to a lesser one and then swap back to what ever you normally use.
And before you ask, no it's not my ridiculous clocks that are doing this. Those are so stable I could fold on them.

Read my sig thread and you will understand why it's happening in more detail. But in essence AMD changed the way Powerplay works, or that is how invasive it is and severely impacted its compatibility with unofficial overclock methods. The bypass method works so read it it and give it a try.

Oh, I see that part now, thanks; I'll give it a try in a while as I was messing around with my CPU after updating the motherboard BIOS.

Edit: It worked, powerplay is still active. Maybe I didn't notice with the unofficial method but I was getting artifacts on lower clocks with this method.

open MSIAfterburner.cfg in notepad.

Scroll to bottom and change this:

[ATIADLHAL]
UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
UnofficialOverclockingMode = 2
Are you kidding me. TSM I both love you and absolutely despise you right now because of how long I've been fiddling around with profiles etc in CCC (Have spent at least 11 hours on it) and now you come and tell me this.
Sigh... Good work finding it out but you've made me realize how much time I've wasted now

I can confirm that I have not had this problem using CCC. Now if AMD would supply adequet fan ramp rates I wouldnt need any 3rd party softwar:thumb:e

I don't think so, for me it was mostly to remove any compatibility problems on overclocking.

The latest MSI afterburner (3.0.0 beta 7) has tick boxes in the settings to enable different overclocking methods, I recommend upgrading to the latest drivers as I got an extra 120-ish points (from 12.4 drivers) in the valley benchmark with my unlocked HD 6950.
