Just out of curiosity how does aspect ratio, FOV and res impact sensitivity in FPS games? I just recently switched from a 15'' CRT to a 120hz 23'' LCD and I feel like there's a pretty noticeable difference in the way mouse movement feels. I've already ruled out input lag as I picked up a LCD with low input lag (~2-3 ms), but I'm scratching my head as to why mouse movement feels different.

To my understanding resolution doesn't impact cm/360 in FPS games, but does FOV or aspect ratio change the way mouse movement feels?

in cod mw1, 2 or 3. the field of view changes the sensitivity/360°, while "treyarch" titles, such as cod waw,bo1 and 2 doesn't. just saying.

It really doesn't. And it would be impossible just based on how the engine works.

Thanks, that overview is incredibly helpful.

So, if I'm understanding this right your crosshair should always land in the same spot regardless of what FOV you're using (as long as you're using the same sens/CPI)?

Technically, yes, it will land on the same spot on the matrix. If you read the overview, you'll know what it means

Haven't played those CoD titles but there are games which have additional stuff added to make scoped sensitivity faster and have weird side effects such as acceleration while having a lower FOV.

But that's more of a ******ed implementation rather then the FOV changing the sensitivity.

The mouse sensitivity in Tribes Ascend would change depending on the FOV, that game is poorly made though.

In a few of the COD games I noticed my unscoped sensitivity would be different if I raised my FOV, I had to double check with a ruler to make sure it wasn't just me but my sens with a higher FOV was significantly higher.

what i was trying to say was in treyarch titles, sensitivity/360° doesn't change when switching from 65 to 80. in infinity ward titles it does. i remember how i came across this back in cod4. that wasnt the case with cod5. and my sensitivty mw3 and cod bo 2 (both fov 80) is also diffrent, while both still use Q³ engine. infinity ward messed with the zoom.

^This.

Afaik, on some games there's the normal sensitivity value and a zoom sensitivity value.

It's basically an implementation to make zoomed-in action more "accurate" by giving it lowering sensitivity

By default, if the game is well programmed, FOV won't change your overall sensitivity.

Custom cfgs probably.

Lower FOV's make it feel slower but that's just perception. Alot of games nowadays have this odd tendency to increase sensitivity when zooming, or worse: slap on some massive acceleration.

You mean decrease sensitivity.

Or increase the number of centimeters for a 360Âş.

Increasing sensitivity while zoomed would only make it uncontrollable.

When you widen the fov, you perceive less sensitivity because you have more objects in view from left to right. When your FOV is narrow as you pan your camera things are leaving and entering the image more often, making the transition of objects on screen more rapid and harder to follow. This is also why people sometimes get motion sickness at very narrow FOV's.
