I purchased Far Cry 3 yesterday on steam and downloaded it. Once I got finished installing all of the different files that it needs I got to the game . Once at the main menu I changed all of the video settings to the max. After that I went back to the main menu and selected campaign it went to a loading screen. The farthest I have gotten is the loading screen for campaign. I have tried different video settings and none of them seem to work. I have tried the game on my other computer and it seems to work fine but it is choppy.

I've had essentially the same issue. I can load up a game, play from 5-15 minutes, and it crashes without fail. I've tried just about everything and am currently working with ubi tech support to figure it out.

This is not an isolated issue. There are hundreds of threads across all major forums about FC3 crashes.

I've tried all drivers/caps - tested every component of my rig - reinstalled the game - nothing works.

I'm using Win8 64, 3770k @ 4.5, 7970ghz w/ 12.11 beta

For what it's worth I'm running Win 8 64 Pro, 3770K 4.2GHz, 7970 1125/1575, and 12.11 beta + latest cap no problems.

I keep seeing crashes being described all over the web regarding FC3, and i've never had a single one myself......very odd.

I'm using 12.11 Beta + CAP2 also no issues. Plus the recent patch 1.3 seems to have given me a slight fps boost.

Crashing hasn't happened for me in a while until just a few minutes ago when I decided to load it up and was prompted with an update, now I have had two crashes the first was after a minute or two, the second one was around 10 also I am using a 7970 overclocked 1125/1600. I'll to pop in my 680 classified later on and try that out (680 went to my water cooling build that is wip)

I have tried the game on my main rig that is an overclocked 3930K and quadfire HD 7970s and I have tried it on my HTPC/LAN rig which is AMD A10 and Dual MSI Lightning 7970s. The HTPC/LAN rig seems to run the game for about 10-20 minutes and then crashes but my main rig just crashes at the loading screen.

Hello Everyone,

I have been trying to troubleshoot Far Cry 3 now since release and I am having similar problems as Buck and Nova with a retail copy. The game crashes BSOD or GSOD after no more than 10 minutes at a time. I have tried all sorts of tests and reinstalls. I've tried an innumerable amount of driver/ beta installs. I even went as far as to perform a factory rest and re-seat the RAM. Stress tests deliver nice performance and no errors as do burn - in tests.

I have a lot of games, and the only other games I have seen it were Sleeping Dogs with HD textures and high custom settings. In fact, this was the first time I witnessed my rig crash and need a hard reset. Mind you, i played that game for around 20 hours total before the first crash. After patching, the game worked fine but I have not run it again since factory reset.

Please forgive my lack of knowledge but I have now read so much information trying to identify the issue I am more confused then when I began. I cannot eliminate any single component or software to find the cause. Everything else runs fine. Was just playing Battlefield 3 and getting smooth performance up to 75 FPS. And before that Mass Effect 3 with texture mod presets. All just fine.

So here's my rig:

Windows 7 Home Premium Edition SP1 build 7601 (64-bit)

1 x AMD FX(tm)-8150 Eight-Core Processor [3902.3 MHz]

15.9GB RAM

AMD Radeon HD 7850 - Twin Frozr III OC

2 x Seagate Barracuda 1863GB HDD

CD/DVDRW/BD, CD/DVDRW/BD, CD/DVDRW/BD, CD-RW/DVDRW/BD

MB - M5A99X EVO

CPU features: MMX SSE SSE2 SSE3 SSSE3 SSE4.1 SSE4.2 SSE4a DEP PAE AMD64 AES Turbo core
Clock frequencies:
- Measured CPU speed: 3902.3 MHz [Turbo core: 3902.5MHz]
- Multiplier: x18.0 [Turbo core: x18.0]
- Reference Clock: 216.8 MHz

CoolerMaster Storm Enforcer case.

*** I use MSi Afterburner to monitor the overclock. I have tried to reduced the clocks in the attempt to tune it down but crash is inevitable. I have reset the bios to defaults and re ran driver installs. I cannot be sure the bios isn't just overwriting everything I adjust? No other game does this so how can I assume my hardware is at fault?

I've now rested on the issue being something related to overclocking and/ or cooling? Temps under load roughly cpu-62c. & gpu-55c. And I cannot be sure that I haven't messed with anything else that may be contributing to the issue.

Sorry to cut in here with such a noobish post but if there are any instructions that could be offered I'd gladly accept. I am pissed that I cannot play Far Cry 3 but more than that I'm worried that I could have damaged something in my PC.

Kind regards from Australia

Seriously doubt it's your hardware if it's the only game that crashes on you, and if you look around the game is crashing on everyone for the most part

apart from some seriously strange lighting issues where shadows and or lighting goes haywire .... ... I have not had a single crash ... ... The new thing I have noticed is a 1-1.5 second lag every now and then (maybe 30min apart) and I can't figure out what is causing that

but like I said ... not a single crash with my sig rig @ 1200p

Hello,

I am terribly sorry but it appears that you are having some kind of technically issue that we are not able to assist with at this time. The issue can be caused by a number of various issues centered around different hard ware components with various PC's. Unfortunately, we are only able to provide general troubleshooting with these issues and are not able to provide additional support at this time.

I have installed the latest beta drivers from AMD and set in game settings per the instructions below.

Regarding CPU performance, my CPU is an Intel 3770k overclocked to a very stable 4.5 ghz.

Please inform.

Hello,

Here is some information on possible steps to improve your performance using your current graphics card:

Nvidia users :
• Should use official 310.70 drivers for optimal perf (no longer need the beta driver)
• SLI should be disabled for now, we are working with NV to provide a SLI profile asap
• Users experiencing the disco-colored hair issue should make sure to use the 1.01 version of the game
o Some cards still have the issue with 1.01, in particular the GTS 250. We will fix this in the upcoming patch (with the TU4 fixes). We will also expose the workaround flag in the .ini file, so that users can enable it themselves if we've missed other problematic cards.

AMD users:
• *MUST ABSOLUTELY* use at least the 12.11 BETA8 drivers (12.11 BETA11 drivers are also ok). Anything lower will result in erratic framerate and stuttering.
• Crossfire should be disabled. It has a big negative impact on performance at the moment. We are working with AMD to provide a Xfire profile asap.

Performance tips:

This game is a very CPU intensive game to begin with and the "Environment quality" option only makes it more demanding.
• On the "Very High" setting, the rendered surface area is twice as big as on console and the objects are 4 times more detailed.
• Users whose systems don't have cutting-edge CPUs or that want higher framerates should consider bringing this setting down a notch.

On the GPU side:
• "AA quality" will most affect performance. Using the "Very High" or "TXAA" settings will enabled 4x MSAA, which will require beefy GPUs, especially as resolutions go up.
• "Shadow quality" will also affect performance when on "Very High", as the shadow filtering is quite sophisticated at that setting.

Contact us again if you have additional questions.

Hello,

SYSTEM FILES

If you continue to experience problems, we will need two files from your system (Direct X and MS System Information). These files report all drivers for your sound and video card, as well as other vital information about your system that will help us in resolving your problem.

First, make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed on your system. Use this link for more info on DirectX: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113. After installing DirectX, follow these steps:

1. From Windows, click Start -> Run (XP), Start Search (Vista), or Search Programs and Files (Win 7). (Alternately, press the Windows key and the "R" key at the same time.)
2. In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) and click OK.
3. Once the DXDIAG file is open, click on the "save all information..." button.
4. Click the save button to save the file as a text file to your Desktop.
5. Click on Start -> Run.
6. In the Open box, type "msinfo32" (without the quotes) and click OK.
7. When the program comes up, click on File. Click on Save.
8. Click the "save" button to save the file as a .nfo file to your Desktop.
9. Click on the url (web link) for your incident in this email. http://ubisoft.custhelp.com/app/account/overview
10. Type in your ubi.com login name and password and click Login.
11. Click on the question you wish to update and click 'update question'.
12. Type a response in the "Results and/or Additional Information" section.
13. Click "browse" and find the "dxdiag.txt" you saved earlier and click Open.
14. Click Update to complete the incident
15. Repeat steps 11-14 to attach the "msinfo32" file.

Once received, we will examine your system info and get back to you as soon as we can.

Far Cry 3 is completely unstable on my custom-built PC. It crashes after 5-10 minutes of gameplay with an APPCRASH d3d11 error.

After extensive research on this problem, and numerous attempts to fix this error, it is obvious that the game itself needs to be patched or both NVIDIA and AMD need new drivers for this title. FC3 is completely unplayable. Please see dxdiag attachment for system specs.

Please contact me at the email address provided in my ubi account should I be of any assistance.

Regards,
Eric S

Ok I am running a hd 7970 lighting with I7 3770k with a overclock of 4.8ghz with gpu @1125 1300 .The game crashes constantly so I uninstalled and re installed via uplay when it installed it wanted to update well ok that completes then it says for this game to run needs update 1.03 and sends me to ubisoft to download patch..After all of that jazz it crashes before I even get in game it says loading then poof back to desktop no errors or anything. Now I have played this half way through campaign before the patch to 1.03 something to do with that patch broke the game and I can not find any info on it? This dam UPLAY is trash if you ask me. I wish I put this on steram.

As I stated earlier 1.3 really messed it up for me as well, regardless of whether you got it from uplay or from steam you would still have to launch uplay to get(all ubi games through steam install their own client of uplay.)

Thanks for sharing your email. I recently received the generic reply before sending the dxdiag but never heard back...

Well, nothing has worked for me regarding Far Cry but I have now experienced the same crash with Battlefield 3. Never before has it happened with B3.

So as much as I'd like to believe ja9219 I fear there is a problem with my hardware, voltage and/ or cooling, I just can't pin point it.

I don't want to persist in messing with my pc or the game in the naive hope that the damage isn't already done.

Hopefully sooner or later there's a solution and I can enjoy the game on pc... Until then I'm going to dread starting up any game in fear of it crashing.

Just because one game is crashing on you, you instantly think it's your hardware? I seriously doubt you have done any damage.

A quick google search of far cry 3 crashing shows this

Thanks ja for taking the time to reply. I see where you are coming from and It is the most logical conclusion. But as I am still pretty green with this whole overclocking and stress testing thing it all leads me to worry none the less.

I have spent hours upon hours searching for relevant info and tried so many different fixes that is is all incredibly confusing.

I do hope you are right though. I guess I can take some comfort in knowing there are plenty of other players having similar issues.

I know where your coming from about worrying, out of curiosity though what does your computer start to do when it locks up, like does it display a black screen, do you get any input at all, etc?
