I need decision help here.

Here is my current rig:

Motherboard: Rampage IV Extreme
CPU: i7 3960x @ 4.8ghz
Memory: 32GB GT Dominator 2133mhz
GPU: 3x EVGA GTX680 Classified Hydro Coppers
Sound Card: SB Xfi Titanium HD
Display: Currently using 1 LG 120hz LCD @ 1080p but plan on 3 HD 1080p Projectors soon.
This Rig is primarily for Gaming.

Will i benefit from upgrading to the SRX-3 or the latest and greatest 2 CPU motherboard?

What are the pros and cons?

thanks

You can only use the Intel Xeon CPU´s on a SR-X motherboard

And with that setup you have now why in the world do you want to upgrade that?

i thought it would be common sense that i would obviously need to get the intel c606 cpus.

Of course

TO answer your question about why would i do it with a system like mine>?

Thats the reason why i started this thread.

You tell me.

Is having 2 Intel c606 cpus on an SR-X Motherboard going to benefit me in anyway with A 3 Projector full HD setup?

I only play games at max settings with exceptions of Anti-Aliasing in some titles in order to get 60fps minimum at Surround resolutions.

So whats the point of getting the SRX motherboard with 2 CPU's?

This is a bit outside my area of knowledge but i think no with what you have now there is no reason to go for the SR-X but i could be wrong about that

You won't see any benefit when gaming, you'll probably see a decent frame drop in games because Xeons aren't designed for gaming. If you were to go for the dual Xeon setup, things like rendering and CPU intensive applications will be significantly faster. If aren't looking at doing any of that then don't change your setup, if you were to go with dual Xeons the Asus Z9PE-D8 WS is a way better board, the SR-X was a bit of a flop by EVGA considering how good the SR-2 was.

I don't think any game can use 12 cores properly. I am not even sure if they currently use 6 cores. So the benefit of dual socket system should be second to none.

Overclocked 3960x will probably help you more than stock Xeons.

i will take your words for it.

thank you everyone

I just dont understand why anyone would get this.

I mean not even the PCIE slots are beneficial since they are so close together and only a True Single Slot Card would allow 4-way sli and a Soundcard.

Okay now for my next question.

My cpu is currently overclocked to 4.8ghz.

will i benefit at all if i get to say 5.0ghz or a little more than that stable?

If your GPUs bottlenecked then yes. I am not sure if they are, so overclock it, and see for yourself.

You can use EVGA Precision/MSI Afterburner with OSD on showing the GPU usage in the game. If it is lower than 100% and you aren't getting sufficient FPS, most likely a CPU is bottlenecking your GPUs.

4.7 GHz is a respectable overclock for the 3960X so 4.8 GHz is fine. The max safe voltage for 24/7 use on that chip is about 1.45V so see how high you can get with that

right now its at 1.410 volts

but if i turn off Intel Speed step technology its not 100% stable.

So if i up my voltage a little do you think i could get more stability when intel speed step is off?

hold up,

i have never seen 100% GPU usage ever!

the most ive seen is 98% and since i have 3way SLI the numbers decrease with each card.

I am also gaming at only 1080p for now but intend on Nvidia Surround resolutions later on.

Are you telling me that if they are not all at 100% then i have a cpu bottle neck?

Nah, 98% is close enough. What is your FPS at that moment?
