Hi OCN,

I've always wanted to have my personal website's domain to be mydomainna.me rather than just mydomainname.com. To clarify, my name happens to end in the letters LE and my current personal domain name, is myname.com.

However I have recently found out that there is a .le TLD, hence allowing me to complete my (domain) name with some style.

The problem is this is a GeoTLD (according to Wikipedia). I'm not even sure what that means to be honest. I found a place to buy this TLD as well.

My only concern is, how difficult would it be to implement this TLD? It is my understanding that it is not activated in the international root servers, hence making it difficult to actually use, if it's even possible? I honestly have no idea.

That said, have any of you had any experience with these types of TLDs? And if so, can anyone let me know if it's worth getting it or if I'm just wasting my time?

P.S. I would really, really love to get one if it was possible, so please don't try to convince me to just stick with the .com

You should be able to use it just like any dot com. You register it at a domain registrar, change the nameservers to that of your hosting provider, and create an add-on domain with your hosting provider.

The only things you have to be carefull of is that some countries stae that if your not a resdient / buiness present they reserve the right to "yoink" it off you at any time, also can be a bit more expenive, the set up's exactly the same though ^_^ (ive got my eye on a .es domin for the same reason as you

Would you happen to have a source for that? Now, obviously the governing body of that geographic area has the ability to control the domain should they desire, but that is no different than the way com/net/org/us work. They are identical aside from the geographic tag I believe.

Spain used to do it up till ~2005, i think ireland "may" also be like that, there arnt many left that are, wikipedia has a good list

ln and .le - Currently being sold by Dennis Hope's "Lunar Embassy Commission" alongside .lunar, .moon, .venus, .mars, .jupiter, .saturn, .uranus, .neptune, .pluto, .space. People who purchase novelty deeds for outer space property from him are also given free domains.[5] None of these TLDs are supported by the root servers and it is unlikely they will be in the future (Although, with the ICANN decision to allow registration of custom gTLDs, it becomes possible).

I might be mistaken then. I was previously thinking he meant something like .uk or .us, but clearly this is something else. I'm sure you can get them, but it seems like it would be a logistical nightmare and prohibitively expensive.
