I know I'm going to catch heck for saying this, but ....

Get a 1000+ watt PSU with either Gold or Platinum rating and something like a hybrid cooling system like the SeaSonic 1000 Platinum (or other manufacturers).

Yes you are running much lower wattage, but that is my point. With such a powerful PSU, and a high efficiency, the fan on the PSU won't even come on and it will kick out as much power as you will need, without ANY coil whine. It will be totally silent.

I wouldn't do that because the efficiency will probably never go above ~80-85% due to the power draw being so small on a PSU like that.

The price is the worst part you pay more for a RM yet its worse then pretty much everything else in that price range

RM series is a flop and avoid at all costs

Coil whine free my ... it still has coil whine

And CWT messed up big time when they made it

750 and 850 watts are Hipro but all the others are CWT

i'm in america so ordering from amazon/newegg most likely unless microcenter has a sick deal or something

powering a very modest system tbh

4770k @ 4.2, GTX 770 OC'd by like 10%, 16GB RAM, 1 WD 3TB red, 1 samsung 840 pro 512gb

in fact my UPS software shows me hovering around 300-350W at any realistic load

by the way i built a friend's system with a capstone 450 or 550 (dont remember) and i was amazed at how quiet it was

at the same time there are a bunch of negative reviews on newegg claiming that they got a faulty unit which fried every other component in their PC, and i've never heard of a PSU doing that for no reason

Fan noise is not the problem

Alright i think its time for another why you should not buy this thread

First problem is price its more then the Seasonic G series the Rosewill Capstone and the semi modular Cooler Master V series

Despite its more money its worse then all 3 of those listed above and i am going to prove why

First off there was the well known problem of overheating on the first batch of Hipro made units

This has been fixed so no need to beat a dead horse

So lets move on with the bigest problem the RM series has

See that red area?

To be more specific, some of the 5V pins on the 24-pin ATX connector don't provide any voltage because CWT forgot to install a grounding bridge

FAIL! they forgot to install a grounding bridge thats just so sad

Since i am too lazy to do all the same work all over again i am going to quote myself

Units picked for this is the

Rosewill Capstone
Seasonic G
Corsair RM
Cooler Master VS

First of is voltage regulation

Lets start with the Seasonic G

Next is the Rosewill Capstone

Corsair RM

Cooler Master VS

Next is ripple

Again Seasonic G

Rosewill Capstone

Corsair RM

Cooler Master VS

Cooler Master VS takes a clear win in voltage regulation which means its the most stable of the 4

Seasonic G wins ripple which means it give the most clean power of the 4

Bigest loser ripple wise is the Corsair RM

Bigest loser voltage regulation wise is the Rosewill Capstone
So there you have it the RM series is an overpriced gimmick! you pay more money and get something thats worse then pretty much everything else in the same price range

Don't Seasonic units have a coil whine problem, though?
Some of them do

To the OP the closest thing to a 100% coil and noise free PSU is the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro P10

But its not cheap its 160$ on newegg for the 550 watts which i think is a bit of a ripoff

But at least the Dark Power Pro P10 has proven that it is what it is

i'm sorry but unless i missed something, how is .5% better voltage regulation going to affect my computing experience

looks like they all "pass" the ripple test anyway

i just want the quietest PSU possible

yuck! HIPRO units....thats the garbage OEMs use in thier towers! i wouldnt touch that with a 10 foot pole

If 500W will do then get a fanless.....seems the fans often have something to with the whine. Rosewill SilentNight 500W, I have one and currently use it, deadquiet with no fan.

Edit: Currently installed in this:

I hate when the same company has two names like Sirtec is also SIRFA and HighPower
