It's not the greatest sound card, but it will be an upgrade if it works with Ubuntu.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm only using a 2.1 speaker system. Do you know any way to get this sound card to work on Linux or would Linux already have the drivers built into the kernal just like the motherboard drivers?

Do you have any recommendations for a good low profile sound card that works with Linux?

I'm Linux-illiterate.
 
This sound card on the old chip under Vindovs 8 works poorly. SB Creativ X-Fi Extrim audio pci-e much better. I Sound Blaster Audigy Rx removed and placed back SB Creativ X-Fi Extrim audio pci-e. Driver from the official site creative works perfectly under windows 8 - 64 .
