$1499 is stupid. And it doesn't matter if you compare it to $3000 which is even more stupid. Fact of the matter is that both are terrible prices, one just definitely more so than the other.

Dual GPUs are supposed to be prices the same or less as 2x the individual GPU they're made of. And that's because there are always going to be sacrifices made with these designs.
Agreed to some extent, Dual GPU cards will always cost more due to the fact of having two GPU's on the same PCB.

It's paying for convenience more than anything, but i will take this from the PCper article:

Look, I'm not going to sit here and tell anyone that AMD is offering a bargain with a $1500 graphics card, but considering NVIDIA announced the GeForce Titan Z for $2999 just a couple of weeks ago, AMD could have gone up to the $2000 level and no one would have been able to put up a big fight. But, right as we start to see the stock levels of the R9 series single GPU graphics cards come back to reasonable levels, AMD is offering a flagship solution that combines two $600 GPUs on one highly engineered and custom cooled PCB.
If it was aircooled and cost that price then sure $1500 is stupid, even now $1500 is a bit silly but compared to 2 780 Ti's it makes some sense.

And now Nvidia is marketing the Titan Z as a "Gaming" card it's all a bit out of whack really.

Nice price fixing between amd and nvidia. I dont care what you support but this is ******ed

Agreed. I'm done buying into this. I'm rocking my 780ti for a long time.

HD 3870 512MB -> $250
HD 3870X2 1GB -> $450
HD 4870 512MB -> $300
HD 4870X2 2GB -> $550
HD 5870 1GB -> $380
HD 5970 2GB -> $600
HD 6970 2GB -> $370
HD 6990 4GB -> $700
HD 7970 3GB -> $550
HD 7990 6GB -> $1000
HD 290X 4GB -> $550
HD 295X2 8GB -> $1500

All i can say is i am disgusted by these prices.

Frankly speaking HD 7970 was the last card i bough and even that was a expensive purchase.
We really have to question ourself on why we are paying to much money for these GPUs.
There should be no reason why we are paying more then double for Dual-GPUs considering in the past 3870 to 6970 getting Dual GPU was more cost effective. When i changed from 2 x HD 6970s to HD 6990 was for a good reason. About the same price but it would be cheaper to water cool. For many of us building PCs and benchmarking is a hobby. We should not have to pay this much money. The price of Single GPU is also in the rise but the quantity and quality of games has not changed the slightest.

We pay way too much and what we get? Bugged games with first day dlc, 8 hours max game time and the quality is low. Total war is like months out and still no proper mgpu support

$1499 is a really dumb move AMD. Who do they think they are, Nvidia? This card should be $1000 and no more, if AMD really wanted it to make any impact on the market. At this price they must not expect to sell many meaning yields mmight be low for these GPU's...

I've been saying something similar for a while, but because it's not something that can be proven, people don't take it seriously. IMO, it's like we have an illusion of competition with this duopoly, one company cannot exist without the other. Plus, it's not like they haven't been caught doing this before.

You didn't get the memo I see, AMD is the King of Price/Performance ALWAYS.

Whenever they've sold lower priced products, that was out of the goodness of their hearts, for the love of their customers. It had nothing to do with the lower performance said products offered.

Always remember the motto: Good guy AMD, NVIDIA is evil.

Anyway, remember when I called out the $550 7970, and the $500 680 based on GK104? look at what that has done to Graphics cards prices ever since.

6990 was $700, in just 2 gens 295x2 is more than twice the price. I'm sure I don't need to get into Titan prices.

Every time I've brought up these facts people like yourself labled me an NVIDIA fanboi instead of seeing it for what it is.

I think they were going for the " our card is so cheap, look how much titan z is " spin on things. So much for the "amd cares about it's customer, not profits" argument so many were making back in October

Like i said before the price is discussing but you dont make impact in market with $1000+ GPUs. They are there to showcase the performance AMD can deliver so kids can go buy a 270X or 260X. The money is $150-250 GPUs.

Shameful price. Nice card though. As I said many times, we need a 3rd company to compete in Graphics and break up the Nvidia/AMD monopoly.
