But what makes me happier is that I just bought a Vita 3 weeks ago and yet to purchase a game. Downloaded a total of 6 free games via plus (good games too) and now I will have 2 additional games each month. As a newcomer to Vita, I am just going to be playing the free games for a looooong while.
Have to agree here. Bought the Vita for my son. Bought him one game. Everything else has been free due to PS+

It's definitely an outstanding deal, no doubt.

Yeah the value gets even better if you own more than 1 console. PSN Plus must be a dream for people that has a PS3, PS4 and a Vita. 6 free games each month lol. And PS3 titles are usually good ones.

Sometimes I wish I kept my PS3 when I had my PC, because they gave out so many AAA titles for free which I never played on the PC as well.

Yeah, don't have the PS4 yet, but have a PS3 and Vita. There isn't a better deal out there.

Good classics would sell more than these few games that are out now.
They do offer PS3 games... for the PS3 console system.

PS2 games require an in-console emulator/original 60GB PS3 or a complete re-working of the code.

PS3 games on the PS4 require a complete re-working of the code also.
My old 60GB didn't even have the EE chip so it was all software emulated unlike the JP/NA version that actually had a physical EE chip.
So it can but they won't since they realized if people had to REBUY the games from PSN they'd get more money for the same game.

Yes, software emulation of PS2 titles on PS3 is possible. CFW users can play PS2 games without the EE chip, but I think it has slight compatibility issues.

There's rumors about Sony allowing PS1 and PS2 disks to be played on the PS4.

However, games from the DVD generation are easily scratched and damaged, so yeah... Introducing digital copies of PS2 titles would solve that issue.

At the very least, re-bought PS2 games, when they come out, should have better textures, and bug fixes, right? I hope they do.

The hardware one was a fully working product and they removed it to lower costs. It is that simple.

So at the end of the day, just like I claimed and you protested, Sony removed the fully working backwards compatibility due to costs.
They removed it because they don't want people playing PS2 games on their PS3s, plain and simple, without rebuying them on PSN as repackaged " remasters/HD collections/whatever " otherwise they would still offer the software emulation, wouldn't they? I'm sure costs were definitely a bonus with said removal of the emotion engine from their hardware BC units, and when I said a limited amount, I'm still talking 95% of the games worked, via software.

I think hardware support dropped due to cost, and software dropped due to your reasoning.

I am still undecided about PSNOW though. This method is not going to be a good one for majority of the people due to poor internet connections. Games like Xcom Enemy Unknown or slower paced games might work very well with PSNOW, but some faster action ones might fail. However, I can never comment fully before testing it myself which will only happen in 2015

My connection is decent enough (60mbps) and even on my connection (which for the states is ok) I would say you are very, very correct. Really hard to play any type of action game. What they have done is amazing, and great don't get me wrong but the input lag is just a tad too much to make action games playable.

Playstation CEO: Now we have the PS4 what do we do with these Warehouses full of PS3's?
Engineer: Why don't we mount them in sever racks and stream them to PS4s?
Playstation CEO: Absolutely Brilliant. We shall call it PSNOW! Then we can Recharge people for games they already bought!

Mine wasn't flashed and ran PS2 games because Sony allowed it to but...

... as y2kcamaross said, they removed it because they saw that they could milk more money this way.
The PS3 slim can play PS2 games just fine, heck even better than the 60GB version since it's CPU has a smaller die so it doesn't eat up so much electricity bills as the old 90nm PS3 RSX did.

Just to make this crystal clear for people that live locked up inside the US borders; PS3 60GB PAL didn't have hardware emulation and all PS3 models can play PS2 games (even the 40GB), it's just that there's a little setting in the PS3 that says, nope, you didn't pay premium for the same hardware so you're not allowed to use it even though it's there in your console.

Kinda like on-disc DLCs, the ones that was in your hand all along but was magically added 8 months after release... I'm looking at you CAPCOM...
