I need to buy 2 140mm fans to use as front intakes for my Fractal R4 but I can't decide between these two.

Phanteks PH-F140HP - Noctua NF-P14s Redux 1500RPM

I'd decided to go for the Phanteks yesterday and even placed the order but then I was advised to think again.

Has anybody used both of these?

I'm coming from Corsair AF140 Quiet Editions so I'm okay with roughly that level of noise at max but I need a lot more air intake than I'm getting with those.

You don't need Noctua fans on one does they are terrible fans.

The phanteks was a better choice as it spins slower and therefor be quieter. these days you don't need high RPM case fans, you can get away with sub 1000 RPM fans and still OC to the max and be below the thermal thresholds of the parts.

Thanks

It's more for the graphics cards than anything else. Finding it difficult to keep my xfire config cool

Off the top of your head, are there any fans that beat the Phanteks?

I have used many TY-140 and TY-147 fans because I can get them at very low prices (ÂŁ5.87)... but for Define R4 front intakes they need to be cut square.

A couple of good PWM fans with GPU to normal PWM fan adapter and a PWM splitter with PSU power so front fans are controlled by GPU fan header's PWM signal. This way your case fans will change speed as GPU fans do.

First link in sig explains it. Second link is how to optimize case airflow and cooling.

Wow, thanks

I'd never have thought of that. I'm sure I could find a splitter on eBay or SpecialTech or something, but then that just leaves the fans. Both of those are PWM but obviously the Phanteks' aren't square so Noctua it is.

Thanks again for that!

I think the PH-T140HP is PWM. Phanteks also makes the PH-F140XP which is PWM

I had a look at the Phanteks XPs but the Noctuas are actually cheaper. I'll keep looking until tomorrow to see if they pop up anywhere but if not then I'll just get the Noctuas

You would be better with a TY-140 its PWM, performs well if not better and cheap inexpensive.

If you have 140mm mounts a Yate Loon 140mm would be good option too.

You may be better off with a 120mm as they are more options around and there is not much difference between using a 120mm to a 140mm.

Thanks for your suggestions

Apparently the TY-140s are now discontinued and also have lower CFM than the Noctuas - also, doyll mentioned that they would need to be cut square for my case and that's not really something I'm willing to do.
Also, the Loons are rated at 46 CFM which is actually lower than the Corsair AF140s I have now unfortunately

You will probably find TY-147 cheaper than TY-140

Yes, they will need to be cut too.
