Best cooler for Devils Canyon?

Ive got every component except for my devils canyon proccessor. I have not yet decided on the i5 4690k or the i7 4790k...

Is this hyper 212+ still a good cooler? Or should i get the corsair h100i? I will wait a while to overclock after my thermal paste breaks in, and more people start to say how much they have safely overclocked.

I got the corsair 600t case for great air flow, and I still have an extra corsair fan i used for my h60 if that is of any use.

I set my friend up with a 3770k and a hyper 212+ and its running 4.5 24/7 with rendering so it gets 100% use frequently. It runs around 72º

I would say do the 212 unless you live in a really hot area.

The H100i is the best 240mm AIO cooler.The nepton is a little better. About 2-3 degrees at most. It is much better than a Hyper 212 Evo.
This I know. It will be a good choice .You must make sure it will properly fit in your case.

Hi Pavillion,

I would whole-heartedly recommend the Corsair H100i as a fantastic 240mm solution. Any 280mm all-in-one is likely going to beat it out by a couple of degrees which is to be expected.

I was running a custom liquid loop based off the XSPC Raystorm kit prior but the pump gave way so I moved to an AIO setup and haven't looked back. As you would know because you own a 600T, Corsair's build quality is fantastic and from what I've heard (although never needed it), their customer support tends to be great also. Something feels right about their gear.

Prior to the custom loop, I was running a CM Hyper 212+ (before the Evo's existed) which was a fantastic cooler but it's just not in the same league.

I believe 600T has 180mm clearance. Corsair says 160mm with side fan, which would make it 185.
This allows you to use most any cooler you want as long as it clears your PCI-E socket and you use RAM of resonalble height.. like less than about 45mm tall.

Top air coolers are as good or better than top AIO / CLC coolers. Much more so when you lower the CLC noise level to that of top air coolers.
4770K, 3.5GHz Stock and 4.4GHz OC

Here Silver Arrow SB-E is 1c warmer than H100 but H100 is 4 times as loud. Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme at same noise level (1dBA more) but 7c cooler than H100. New Silver Arrow IB-E is probably a little better than it's older brother.. and is offset for better PCI-E socket clearance.

If you can get the TRUE Spirit 140 Power, it is a very good cooler for the money. It performs as well as NH-D14 SE2011 and is slightly quieter.

On an i7 3690x @4.5Ghz TRUE Spirit 140 Power was 0.8c warmer than NH-D14 SE 2011 65/4c to 66.2c). Also 3c better than TRUE Spirit 140 with 6mm pipes.


And at same time was 2.5dBA quieter (42.4c to 39.9c)

Change the TY-147 fan for a TY-143 fan it's even better... and still no louder than top CLCs are.

Lenny over on Bit-Tech tested it on his i7 920 @ 4.2Ghz using TY-143 fans. His testing shows TRUE Spirit 140 Power 0.3c warmer with one fan at 1200rpm than NH-D14 was with 2 of the same fans at 1200rpm. Both running 2 fans at 1200rpm the TRUE Spirit 140 Power is 2c cooler, and 2 fnas at 2500rpm it's 3c better.. Remember this is NH-D14 with 2500rpm TY-143 fans, not it's stock 1200/1300rpm fans. Stock TRUE Spirit 140 Power uses a TY-147 fan. Same performance as TY-143 at same rpm.

The H100i is a good cooler, but you will most likely have to replace the stock fans that are included with it, they are very loud. I replaced mine with Noctua F12 fans and now the cooler is whisper quiet. During heavy game playing my CPU will reach upwards of 59-60c, stress tests around 74-76c, and idles around 27-29c. My CPU is currently OCd x43 at 1.275 and I use Noctua NT-H1 TIM.

At a guess the H100 with F12 fans will be similar to or less cooling as H100 with stock fans running below 40dBA.. which is 7-9c hotter than air.
Spending more money for CLC than for a good air cooler for similar performance and much less noise??

Hind sight is always 20/20, if I would have known then what I know now I most likely would have just stayed with my Noctua NH-U14S, or went CLC. Just so many mixed reviews about different components, figured Id give the H100i a shot, hey I can control the LED colors on the pump!

Without that there is no way of comparing cooler performance because even in same test system the cooler intake air temp changes with almost every cooler tested. And this change is even more for CLC.. usually much lower than air cooler intake temps. Reason is CLC use the case to keep their heated exhaust air away from their intake air... Some companies actually advise mounting their CLCs to draw their air from outside the case and dump their exhaust into the case!! http://www.mysmiley.net

Sorry about your keyboard lol... I know that now lol, hopefully I can set up push/pull Noctua F12s to gain a little more cooling from the H100i.

No.
It's a cheap cooler who's not made for OC, and for few buck more you have the 412 who is more performant/quiet

The best actual cooler is the nh-d15 (but check the compatibility with your motherboard), and the best cooler for it's price is the True Spirit 140 power (but check the cpu cooler clearance of your case)

No, the NH-D15 is not the best. One of the best, but definitely not the best.
With the likes of Silver Arrow IV-E, PH-TC14PE, Cryorig R1 Ultimate, Dark Rock Pro 3, and others all having exceptionally good cooling ability the NH-D15 is surrounded by equals.

Do agree TRUE Spirit 140 Power is probably the best value right now. It cools as well as NH-D14 SE2011 and is just as quiet.. actually 0.8c warmer and 2.5dBA quieter.

Seems like a cheap cooler to me, IDK if I would chance the investment of a CPU with something like that...but just my 2 cents

Quite a lot of people with this cooler running decent overclocks so I guess that's something. It's definitely a good cooler for the price (although it's so popular that it overshadows a lot of other coolers that perform just as well for the same price).
