Peeps who have never had anything but a stock cooler get a 212 and the greatest thing made.

Those who have used a variety of coolers know its just a ho-hum cooler. There are many others as good or better as same or better prices now. Much depends on where we live. Cooler prices vary dramatically around the world.

I would say Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme if you don't go for the h100i.

Whisper quiet on my delidded 4.7ghz 4790k on idle (pwm fan settings), and not too bad on load as long as you don't go above 80% on your pwm fan setting (I do 40% for 50c, 50% for 60c, 70% for 70c, and 80% for any higher).

AIDA64 stress was 78 max on 1 hr plus load.

The Corsair h80i went straight to the mid 90's and a NH-D14 was 90c.

However, they are hard to find and the fan clips are a *****.

I would try the cheaper and cool looking CRYORIG R1 Ultimate, which has better RAM clearance, if you can't find a SB-E Extreme.

all i have to say is:

sandybridge TDP 95w
ivybridge TDP 77w
haswell TDP 84w
devils canyon TDP 88w

if you have a HSF capable of handling a 95w chip.... you really should ask yourself if it can handle a 88w chip

the issue is not whether your HSF can handle the heat, but how to effectively transfer that heat ONTO the HSF. you'd get more bang for your buck by investing in a high quality TIM then another HSF....
