If using 100 times a day, I'd hit that limit in 2.7 years!

I tried looking for information on what you described but couldn't find anything. Do you have a link that explains this weird limitation?
I tried to find the page to no avail. If I find it I will post it here.

Excellent find!

Don't know why the author took it down. It can still be downloaded from Softpedia.

Hey guys. Sorry to kinda necro a thread here, but I wanted to ask about Samsung MagicTune. I have a Samsung S27B970D. I can use ScreenBright, but only seemingly to modify green/magenta balance. Brightness, contrast, luminance seems to not be affected. I tried MagicTune, but on Windows 10 so far I haven't gotten it to work correctly. I'm stuck in a perpetual loop of a message telling me to restart my computer. I've tried compatibility mode, and various other distros (?) of the MagicTune software on Samsung's portal. Same reboot message with each. I also tried MagicTune Premium, but that seems like a paid or coprorate app - the software does launch, but all the features are locked, and I can see it wants me to enter licensing server info.

Does anyone have any MagicTune troubleshooting tips for me? Feeling like kind of a noob over here. Thanks!

Good stuff. This has an easy to use UI/menu for hotkeys. I'm using Ctrl + Alt and the Up and Down arrow keys to increase and decrease brightness in 5 degree values. Works great; just like a laptop.

Now if only I could bind the mouse wheel. Also it would be nice if you could set the brightness values for day and night time and have it automatically switch - similar to Flux.

Alternatives are then:
I mostly appreciate the latter and MagicTune (for problems check this) that can change a heap more options than simply brightness/colors.

Too bad there's no FOSS choice for Windows then.
Seems there is one, but at least for the moment it just supports setting brightness.
EDIT: EasyMCC ain't even half bad

WOW!!! ScreenBright!!!

I apologize for my insane enthusiasm here, but I have been sorely missing MagicTune ever since I upgraded from my 8-year old Samsung 2253BW to the AOC G2460PG. Thanks to getting used to MagicTune, I just HATE having to lean forward and reach for my buttons and then press them only to sometimes press the wrong buttons and whatnot. Sigh. I'm so tired of that. LOL With ScreenBright, I finally have all the control I want!!! WOO-HOO!

Finally!

Edit: Nevermind. I guess my monitor isn't 100% compatible. Even though ScreenBright can make all these changes, they're not permanent. What I mean is, anytime my monitor has to reconnect or turn off and come back on, it reverts back to the last configuration I set it to with the onboard controls. So, it does this at the following times:

  • Anytime I turn my monitor off and back on
  • Anytime I restart the computer
  • Anytime I shut down and turn the computer back on
  • Anytime I change the refresh rate or the resolution
  • Anytime the refresh rate or resolution is changed automatically
  • Anytime I launch a game in exclusive full screen mode
  • Anytime I Alt+Tab out and back into said game
  • Anytime I exit said game

I also have a strange ESD problem with my desk where sometimes the monitor will briefly lose signal for about half a second, such as if I pick up or set down a metal utensil like a fork or a spoon or something. When this happens, I lose my ScreenBright settings and I get back my previously-configured settings that I configured using the onboard controls.

I tried DisplayTuner, but I have the same problem.

I tried ClickMonitor DCC, but it claims my monitor isn't even compatible. So, I'm guessing it just doesn't have any way to write permanent changes to it (no EEPROM? I don't know).

I'm going to keep using it, but unfortunately I won't be able to use it in the way that I originally thought.

So I had to reinstall Windows recently, and all of my programs, and upon reinstalling ClickMonitor I noticed you can now bind your mouse wheel. I'm not sure if this was recently added or I missed it but it's amazing.

Well, I just discovered that ClickMonitorDDC is vastly superior to ScreenBright. It's not only superior, it absolutely destroys it. ScreenBright is ok and it gets the job done, but ClickMonitorDDC lets me get the job done far easier. I am surprised to find only 1 solitary post on this entire forum containing "clickmonitor", and keeif, it's your post.

With the way I configured ClickMonitorDDC, I am now able to change my brightness in the following different ways (the brightness is all I want to change):

  • Simply scroll up and down while hovering my mouse cursor over the notification area icon (the increment is fully customizable from 1 to 100, and '0' for disabling this feature)
  • Press Ctrl+Shift+Scroll Up or Ctrl+Shift+Scroll Down
  • Press Ctrl+Shift+1 or +2 or +3 or +4 etc. to choose different specific brightness settings that I designated. Right now I have 4. Edit: Now I am using Ctrl+F8, Ctrl+F9, Ctrl+F10, Ctrl+F11 and Ctrl+F12 because now I have 5 different brightnesses I want to choose from.
  • Right-click its Notification Area icon and just choose one of the menu items I created to select a specific brightness. Right now I have 5.

I can do much more than this if I wanted to, but this is all I need and want and I'm extremely happy with it. It also has an option to start with Windows, and that has proven to be extremely nice.

I looked at ClickMonitorDDC before and I thought it was major overkill for my needs, but now I see it's absolutely perfect and again, it destroys ScreenBright.

So I just had to join to say thank you for this thread. I need to turn the brightness up every time I want to play a certain competitive game, and messing with the OSD controls was a pain. Now I have a batch file that automatically adjusts everything before and after the game runs, thanks to ScreenBright.

Can't believe this feature isn't exploited by display manufacturers. How can gaming monitors in particular, like the Rog Swift, not take advantage of this? Crazy.

Once upon a time it was more common for monitors to come with software that controls it this way. It seems those days are over with for some reason.

Now that you've tried ScreenBright, I think you would love ClickMonitorDDC even more. I found it to be significantly better.

I was previously using some weird one, Pangolin Screen Brightness, which suffers from the same issues you previously mentioned - constantly resetting itself, even when I click on things on-screen. So far, I like ClickMonitor, but it would be nice if I could get it to control my other 3 monitors as well (4 total). It seems to only want to control my main monitor....

They do have instructions for making it work with more than one monitor. I only have one monitor, so I can't be any more helpful than this.

I was pretty tired last night, and saw this thread as I was about to change my brightness and lay down.

Now that I'm more rested, I found and configured the settings. They made it pretty easy too, you just have to type in the display names for the monitors....

Now I am even more impressed with this program than I was before! Very cool.

I'm pretty impressed myself! I'll eventually put more time into fine-tuning it, but the settings above work for now.

I'm actually still using this to this day on windows 10, it even supports multi monitor control, which no other app can. It's SO outdated now though. It works for the most part. (only part I need is dynamic brightness controll)

Does anyone know of anything newer that does the same out today?
