Hello all,
So I just wanted to share my experience with you all regarding a pre-binned 4790K CPU that I purchased from Silicon Lottery as well as some quick benchmarks.
So I am sure some of you are thinking '' Dude why buy a premium pre-binned CPU'', well the answer is simple, rather than going the route of the unknown and depending upon pot luck, I decided to go a more assured route and frankly the premium is not that much of a premium but this can be put down to the fact that I purchased my CPU from Silicon Lottery which is a US based service, with myself being in the UK and the Pound being stronger than the Dollar it worked out a fairly good deal for me personally but for others it could be a different story.
So to the more important bit, the specs and what was done to the CPU.
.........................................................................................................................
CPU: Intel 4790K
Binned performance: 5Ghz
V-core to achieve 5Ghz: 1.27
CPU Input Voltage to achieve 5Ghz: 1.87
Further modification to CPU: IHS removed, VRMs coated with liquid electric tape, thermal paste replaced with Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra and the IHS re-glued back to CPU.
As you can guess the IHS removal was at an extra cost but I felt it was worth it in order to improve chances of better temperatures both in general usage and when stress testing.
..........................................................................................................................
So to the next bit, some images of what I received (Package came from the States)
Retail CPU Box (No Cooler) with letter from Silicon Lottery explaining about the company, warranty but more importantly the Overclock settings required to obtain the 5Ghz Overclock.

CPU Retail Box details closeup

CPU(Not an actual image of my CPU, but a CPU from the same provider which has been through the same process as my own)

Letter details closeup

Now I know you will be interested in some benchmarks as well as some temperature information.
So firstly, the obligatory CPU-Z validation

Now we have our Initial Intel Stress Test

Then I chose to do a looped Test to further test stability, this test was run for 7 Hours.

3DMark Results (Top Of Page)

3D Mark Results (Bottom Of Page)

Cinebench R15 (Scored 1001, Apologies for the small image)

Heaven Benchmark 4.0

All in all this is just a thread to share my experience with a pre-binned CPU and the service that I received from Silicon Lottery overall. Does getting a pre-binned CPU cost more, yes of course ! Is it worth the money ? well only you can decide whether or not it is personally worth it to you. I guess in my particular circumstance, it ended up cheaper for me due to currency exchange rates and as I wanted to have a more ''guaranteed'' chance of a decent Overclock, as such going for this kind of service made sense to me. Sure it removed the wonder and excitement of stumbling on a golden chip and I have overclocked in the past and found better CPU's than others and I have shared in the excitement of finding a golden CPU but I guess with my days getting busier and lesser time to tweak and test, having this done for you can have its advantages.
For those wanting to look at some Haswell based CPU Overclocking Stats, you may want to head over to the Haswell Overclocking Guide [With Statistics] thread bought to you by ''Darkwizzie'', thanks goes to him for providing this resource
So there you have it, a small incite into my experience. If you would like any more information or for me to run any particular benchmarks then please feel free to post and ask and I will do my best to provide that information for you.
Thanks all,
E
