My motherboard (see rig details below) uses a 3rd party Renesas 3.0 controller. At the Asus website still has listed a older driver from 2011. Well I found this

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19880/USB-3-0-Renesas-Electronics-USB-3-0-Driver#help

Which is a newer driver for my Renesas 3.0 controller.

My driver I currently have installed is Version: 2.0.32.0

The driver on the link above is Version: 2.1.28.1
which is newer and the file size is about 1mb bigger then the one I currently have.

Down the page is where I'm puzzled it has this:

This download is valid for the product(s) listed below.

Intel® Desktop Board DH61AG
Intel® Desktop Board DH61BE
Intel® Desktop Board DH61DL
Intel® Desktop Board DH67BL
Intel® Desktop Board DH67CF
Intel® Desktop Board DH67CL
Intel® Desktop Board DH67GD
Intel® Desktop Board DH67VR
Intel® Desktop Board DP67BA
Intel® Desktop Board DP67BG
Intel® Desktop Board DP67DE
Intel® Desktop Board DQ67EP
Intel® Desktop Board DQ67SW
Intel® Desktop Board DX58OG
Intel® Desktop Board DX58SO2
Intel® Desktop Board DX79SI
Intel® Desktop Board DX79TO
Intel® Desktop Board DZ68BC
Intel® Desktop Board DZ68DB
Intel® Desktop Board DZ68ZV
Intel® Desktop Board DZ77BH-55K

I'm not sure if my board is in this list. I want to know if this is the right driver for me ?

Why do I want to update my USB 3.0 driver well here's why:

Inserting a USB stick locks up my PC sometimes. It's done this with diff sticks too, so it's not a thumb drive issue. It does not happen often and I'm using the front port USB 3.0 slots. I don't know if it's doing this with the 2.0 slots but I can't really test out the 2.0 slots cause their located in the back of tower and the way the tower is at, it would be extremely inconvenient to try. Is it probably the crappy 3rd party Renesas 3.0 controller that Asus uses maybe ?

Do you guys think it's a static issue due cause I have carpet and it's winter where I leave and the air is kinda dry, but the tower is on a piece of plywood by the way.

Maybe I should try to update driver ? Thanks for any help.

My chip is actually is the uPD720200A REV4. with firmware 4.0.1.5.0.2. The latest firmware for my chip is 4.0.1.5.0.3 which came out in 2013. My driver were actually quite old. I installed the driver you had in your first post for the 2.1.39.0 for the chip ÎĽPD720200. Though at the time I did not know that I had actually had the uPD720200A chip. So I installed the driver 2.1.39.0 but for a diff chip.

So the question is, is the driver 2.1.39.0 still right driver for the uPD720200A chip also, if not which driver do I get for the uPD720200A ? Thanks a bunch.

I was surprised that my chip was the uPD720200A REV4. with firmware 4.0.1.5.0.2 So I already installed the driver 2.1.39.0. So if I update the firmware I don't have to reinstall the the driver right ?

I'm having a problem, according to this topic thread it says how to update you firmware to the newest 4.0.2.1.0.3.

I'm following the instructions in post #4 but I'm getting a error, it's the same error that someone else got that he explains in post #7.

Then the solution is in post #8.

I want to do what is said in post #8 here's a quote:

3 - Then, in your case, copy paste the following commands in CMD:

1st chip:
C:\>uPD720200_uPD720200A_FW_Updater\W200FW35.exe /srom 4 /write F402103.mem cfg.ini /address 04-00-00
2nd chip:
C:\>uPD720200_uPD720200A_FW_Updater\W200FW35.exe /srom 4 /write F402103.mem cfg.ini /address 05-00-00

Here's my question, does he want the user to copy and paste both of these at the same time, meaning updating the firmware for both controllers at the same time ? I don't how to do that in CMD.

Here's the link by the way to the topic:

Thanks

My own story started by getting an USB 3.0 - 2 Port PCI Express card, by Italian distributor (brand Atlantis ) P001-USB30-PCX (V5.1)
This worked with XP Pro for several years with no issues.
This May 2020, I did buy Win7 Pro 64bit Retail, and Microsoft driver 2.1.39.0 this was installed automatically.
Now I am also aware that there is no newer than that.
But I did find also the original Renesas driver 2.1.39.0 package, after installation just for fun (renesas-usb3-v2.1.39.0.zip) I did note of one new Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller Utility
By activating the utility, I did see for a first time the firmware version 4015.

With a bit of more research I found the F402103FWUP1 file that is the latest ever firmware for uPD720200 & uPD720200A.

I did use this firmware utility, and an fully automated firmware update started and completed.
System reboot ....

And now I am also at the latest 4021 Firmware.

Few notes that I found regarding 4021, this is of resolving issues mostly at Windows XP.
Either way, driver update and firmware update, they are automated and risk free due the dedicated NEC / Renesas windows installers.

In summary, even within end of 2020, for Win 7 Renesas driver 2.1.39 & 4021 Firmware this seems and is the final release.
