Don't do that. Leave that unchecked.

That setting is only to limit resources for testing purposes.

Why does it say you are in single channel mode?

Exactly what I was wondering also. That's why I asked which slot he had his ram in. Windows detects 16, which is even wierder.

You could have two 8GB DIMMs in single channel mode.... resulting in 16GB.

OP, what's the recommended memory voltage and is it set? I have seen this before where motherboard and tools detect the memory properly but OS does not. (The old NVIDIA 680i/780i experienced this quite often back in the day.)

This is what I was referring to. It looks like what it does when you have a 32-bit OS with more than 3.4gb of ram. But with 16 o_O

Have you tried to update the BIOS on your motherboard, if not try that.

I had this exact same issue and it turned out to be one of the DIMM slots on my ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 was bad right out of the box.

Do the following: Test each stick of ram individually in one slot. If your PC boots then odds are the other slot you were using is having issues. I almost ran out and bought a new RAM kit myself when this happened and after trouble-shooting it and then finally returning it to my vendor for them to troubleshoot we determined it was the slot.

edit: Found some old screenshots from when I had the issue. Also found the old thread I ran into while searching for a solution when it happened to me.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1469352/amd-build-with-8gb-memory-64-bit-win-7-but-bios-only-reports-4gb-and-windows-reports-3-90-gb-usable-single-channel

You can see that I have 2 DIMM slots populated and both seem to read perfectly fine in CPU-Z but my system showed 8 GB (3.90 usable) in this Windows system info page.

Also note it claims I was running in single-channel mode even though my PC was setup in a proper dual channel configuration according to my motherboard manual.
