I can't seem to save my bios on my titan x. I am using the feature on gpu z and it just shows this

I want to flash my bios with a small voltage increase and a more aggressive fan profile but i would really like to back up the default. With it not letting me save the bios I am a little afraid it will mess up when i go to flash it. That would be a disaster. Any help would be great. I will head on over to the owner's club and see if i am missing anything.

I may seem a little noobish but the guide on the owner's club page is a little lacking in detail. I flashed my gtx 680 and the steps i used then were a little different than on that guide. I mean is it the same for every card. Could i go watch a youtube video showing how to flash the old titan and as long as i had the maxwell bios editor and the latest nvflash would those same steps work for my titan x? I hope i am not asking for to much but could some one please make me a more detailed guide. I just want to become familiar with flashing this titan before i invest several hundred dollars into a loop.

Have you tried disabling the card in device manager before backing up with gpu-z. Also.
nvflash --protectoff
nvflash -backup gm200.rom or nvflash --backup gm200.rom
try this^^^^^

I just tried saving the bios with the card disabled via device manager to no avail. Now are you saying to run a cmd window navigate to the nvflash folder and then type in "nvflash --protectoff" then "nvflash -backup gm200.rom

Sorry this is just a ton different than it was with my 680s. All i had to do with those was back up my bios with gpu z and use cmd, nav to nvflash folder and type in a few commands. I think i need to learn a little more about this process before i attempt any flashing.

yeah
cd c:\nvflash
nvflash --protectoff
nvflash -backup gm200.rom

on the guide it says when you type in nvflash --protectoff it will ask for an index, what is that exactly and how to i get it? From what i gather that would be the pci e slot. May be wrong but i am just trying to gather as much info on this process before i attempt anything.

I took a screenshot and underlined in red what i think my index is tell me if i am correct.

i suppose the quality of the image is to dodgy to see but what i did was type in nvflash --list and it showed my titan and some other things i couldn't recognize and each started with something like this <0> "device" <1> was geforce gtx titan x so i assume that is my index number for the card.

also lastly is there in danger in using the nvflash --protectoff command if all i am doing is using the backup command afterwards. Sorry i have a million and 1 ? just would rather not brick my first titan x. I would like to have this one in working order when i purchase my second lol.

rename nvflash_cert_blah blah blah to just NVFlash
copy that folder to the root of c:\
disable the titan x in device manager
type this in elevated cmd window(right click command prompt and run as admin)
cd c:\
nvflash --protectoff -i1(index1)
nvflash -i1 -backup gm200.rom

I don't get it either, everything works fine with my 970 ssc+gpuz or nvflash to backup bios

open cmnd prompt in admin mode
4) type nvflash --list (pcie index)
type nvflash --protectoff
*you will be prompted to emter the card index... repeat for each card. (in your case index1 or i1)
5) type nvflash -i0 --save {name.rom} (for you nvflash -i1 --save gm200.rom)

yea i love oc.net for that. I have learned a ton from this amazing community of people and i have even helped a few people a couple of times. Anyways i got it "praise the lord hallelujah" finally lol. Thanks a lot. Now i have my bios all saved. Now i used that protectoff command does that pretty much stay in affect from now on. In other words can i re-enable the protect feature on the bios or is it forever unprotected. I guess I am ready for the next step. Was thinking about doing that max air bios from the owner's page. I am a little scared at this point. I mean i watched a vid from jay2cents an hour ago or so. He said he had a few cards brick on him when flashing. Does that happen all that often. I mean what are the chances of that happening and is there any way to fix it if the flash fails. If you can instill enough confidence for me to go ahead i may have to hold my hand through that process if you don't mind.

once you get your final bios flashed, you can type:
nvflash --protecton

About bricking something:

If you break something and the card is not usable, you can flash your original BIOS back onto it. To do that, another graphics card would help a lot. Do you have one?

You would install that other graphics card and connect a monitor to it. The Windows desktop should show up on it. You can then work with nvflash to do something to the unusable card.

I don't know if you have to shuffle things around in the PCI-E slots of the board, like put the working card into the first slot and the unusable card somewhere behind that.

could use intel/amd integrated graphics if you get a brick or bad flash.

yea sorry about the leave of absence i was helping a friend with his rig but yea i have 2 680s that could help with if i brick my card. So if i do run into trouble i can just reflash the original back. I guess that makes sense since i just went through all that with the backup lol. Well i think i am ready anyone want to step me through this. I have nvflash open in a command prompt i downloaded the max air bios. So i put the custom bios in the nvflash folder rename it to gm200.rom <-does the gm have to be capitals or anything. Also i would kind of like to mod that max air to have a beefy fan profile. I rock headphones care more about temps than sound. Maxwell editor should allow for that correct. Anyways after i place the bios in there and rename it what commands do i need to type and i also need to disable the display driver through device manager correct? Now will i need another card to do this or can i do all this while having only the titan in the pc. I do in fact have a cpu with no integrated graphics will that be an issue. Also what is the max air going to be changing? is all this going to immediately push my temps up or will it pretty much run the same until i start changing stuff with precision x. . Also once i flash the card i will not go straight into pushing it to the max i will take my time and monitor the temps closely. I am just curious if the max air bios is going to increase voltage straight out without touching oc software. Is there anything else i need to know before i do the flash? any things i need to watch out for any extra steps after the flash. Sorry about the book just trying to become fully educated before i make the jump

basically i am asking for the step by step actions of the flash and any precautions or necessary actions after the flash?

make sure you disable both gpus in device manager
cd c:\nvflash
nvflash -6 -i1 gm200mod.rom
y to confirm
exit
reboot

you said to disable both gpus you mean my back up 680 right. also anyone try out this max air bios. How does it effect temps? Also does it really yield any better overclocks?

well my nephew needed the back up 680s for a while should i chance it with only having the titan and no igpu? Can i do it with just the titan x being i don't have igpu on my i7 3930k? My nephew swiped the cards this morning so he could play gta 5. He only has a gtx 570 and it wasn't cutting it for him. I can wait if it would be wiser to have another gpu in the rig during the flash.
