Yeah, they need to make it clearer in my opinion.
Think about it though. Let's say that you're at a restaurant and you tell your waiter or waitress, "I'll give you a tip if you give me good service". That's bad because then you'd have to wonder: did you receive genuine service that was straight from their heart? Or, did they only provide decent service because you promised to give them a tip?
I wouldn't want to reward someone if I felt that their service to me wasn't straight from their heart, but was instead done for selfish reasons. Y'know? If I were to have someone at a restaurant say that to me, then I'd probably have to say something like, "I'm not motivated by the possibility of getting tips. I'm motivated by the joy of serving people."
