I Just purchased an ASUS X99A 3.1 mobo and 4x4G DDR4 2400 non-ECC RAM
Now I have some options for CPU
Option 1. 5820K:
6C/12T with 20M L3 cache and 28-lane, can be overclocked to 4+Ghz

Option 2. Xeon E5-1660 V3 ES L0 stepping
8C/16T with 35M L3 cache and 40-lane(base clock 2.9G, Turbo 3.2G)

The questions are
1. Can I use non-ECC memory on Xeon E5 V3?
2. Can I overclock Xeon E5 1660V3? Are they unlocked? (both multipliers and bclk oc are fine with me)
3. For this weird E5-1660 V3 which has 20-way 35M L3 Cache (Retail one has 20-way 20M L3), can this CPU really use all 35M L3? Or those extra 15M are just idle and useless.

Edit
This ES chip does not identify itself as an E5-1660V3, but I find the specifications here.

I have no idea what QEYA means

I'm curious... why are those your two options and are they the same price? Usually there would be a 5960x option.

If they are the same price, I would take the e5-1660 v3 regardless if its unlocked or can utilize all the cache (I bet it can since it's an Engineering Sample).

He's looking at the ES on Ebay for either 480 or 498. As long as it overclocks and uses all 40 PCIE lanes... I'd take the 1660. 5820k's should be reserved for MATX or M ITX builds honestly.

Yes, I can grab either at almost the same price.

The 1660s should be multiplier unlocked... see this

This is a QS version of 1660 v3
QS is a special type of ES. Usually QS are sent to the press to do test and review.

I am looking at a normal ES which does not even identify itself as an 1660 V3

Bro... I'm just using it to show you that a E5-1660 is multi unlocked...

You ask a question, I answered it.

You asked again. I showed you proof.

ES, QS, Retail, doesn't matter.

Sorry for my being rude.
I just want to buy an Xeon that can be overclocked, but right now it seems to be a hit or miss. Some says that 1660v3 are locked while some can oc them.

Who is saying they can be locked? Show me?

Well the good thing about ebay is the fact that if you buy it and its not what you want... then you can send it back :-D

Seriously... Just try it... if it doesn't work. I might buy it from you

Bad news is that after I did some research. It is actually an ES of E5-2667 V3, 2 series E5 can not be OC.
The seller was trying to deceive me. Eventually he told me the truth.
