I did something potentially dumb. I bought a Kaby Lake i3 for this board. Although its supported....I find it hard to believe its flashed to the latest BIOS to be compatible. So the question is, will it POST at all without the update? Or so I need to track down a skylake, update and then pop in the kaby lake i3.

The CPU is an i3 7100.

I didn't have an issues flashing my bios when I had an ASRock back in the day...

7.10 looks to be the latest.
But will it post with the kaby chip without the update? I don't have a skylake chip....

What installing a KBL CPU does when booted with an older SKL BIOS varies between the boards manufacturers, but one thing is for sure, you need that update prior to POSTing. I've heard of some folks getting as far as errors registering, but for most it just turns off or boot loops.

Have you given thought to finding out if anyone on OCN with a SKL chip is remotely close to you and willing to help? I'd definitely help you if you were within reasonable distance.

Try other forms of social media and maybe posting on Craigslist as well.

I'd hate to see you buy a SKL chip just to get that thing started.

Good luck!

Thanks. Yeah I have a few ideas. I used to work at an electronics re-seller....Might get in touch with them. I used to test motherboards all day hopefully they still have my box O' CPUs.

Otherwise I might buy a Celeron and return/sell it when I'm done.

Nice!

Worse case and if you can't find one, I might be able to help you out by mail.

Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Well If I get a working machine I will let you know. I would assume since its fully supported with the BIOS update.

Well nobody in town can help me. All the computer shops in town are either complete idiots, con artists, or don't have anything newer than 1155 socket stuff. My only choice is to contact ASrock. Which is going to take forever.
