Hi guys,

I wanted to do quick intro thread first, but I've stumbled on a bit of an issue with the new build.

I'll try to explain best I can.

So, I purchased a used MSI 980 Ti and was using it for a week or so in my new watercooled Ryzen build and everything seemed to be working great. Though I did notice once I started to try and OC the 980 Ti, it wasn't able to clock all that high. I settled with +200 core and +100 mem with power at 110% and left it. Played BlazBlue: CT yesterday for a good while with no issues... later that night, I tried to jump back into SWTOR and it began to freeze up after some time. Third try, I clocked down just to see if it would help, but the screen went black during the game and lost signal. Restarted and got a error code b2 for my Asrock Taichi.

Tried resetting the BIOS with the reset button on the rear I/O, no luck.

After that, I tried plugging the 980 Ti in the lower pcie slot (it's connected via a riser cable) but still no luck. Tried without it connected at all and it booted past the error. Tried plugging in directly to the board hoping it was the riser card, but I was again greeted with the error b2. Now I'm up and running with an old 270X and working.

**Update 1 ** Installed the stock cooler so I don't have to keep adding/removing from the loop
Tried it in a different intel based system and got the same b2 error code.
Tried installed in this new system with the 270X as the display and it will boot to windows ok. Device manager shows the Ti's device status as "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" and GPU-Z shows unknown BIOS and 0 for all clock speeds.

**Update 2** Successfully flashed its BIOS to another MSI 980 Ti, but device manager and GPU-Z still show the same.

Thoughts?

I'm guessing it's dead too. Still seems odd.

Didn't see artifacts until +285, stopped immediately and just went down from there. Running it at +200 core resulted in 1400 boost as shown in Superposition. Superposition looped showed 0 issues at those speeds( after the higher tests). I've seen over 1500 (with modded bios) Temps were in the low-mid 50's. Played other games for hours, but only had issues in SWTOR in only around 10 minutes.

I also purchased a used 980 Ti. About 4 months after i purchased it it started to do funny stuff, artifacts etc. I was about to RMA it,when i decided to check how the paste was. It was a mess, drier than i've ever seen before. I put new paste, and it has been fine since.

Try that.

I put new paste on it when I installed the waterblock. However, I will say that there was a good bit still on it surrounding the chip (on the green area) If there was to much caked up on that, could it cause an issue perhaps? I didn't clean too much in there as there's some sort of small resistors or something(I'm not sure what they are) on that area I didn't want to damage.

Well, after exhausting pretty much everything I could think of with no luck, I went ahead and sent this thing in for an RMA assuming that it is indeed dead. The good news is that MSI said they don't have any to directly replace it with, so they'll be sending the Gaming version instead of the "V1" card that I had! Can't complain with their RMA so far!
