Finally managed to remove all throttling (never reaches 100% TDP) on my laptop MXM Geforce 1070. Had to use the hardware programmer. Works really well. The hardest part is 1) getting a IC clip that actually fits on the chip (you're probably best off building your own solder free harness with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HHH65T4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DC74A9Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). and 2) finding out what "pin 1" is. COMBINED with having a clip that fits.
That's the hard part. Getting a proper fit and connecting to pin 1, once you do that flashing is easy and brainless with the Skypro (or skypro iI).

Nice to see the clocks solid 100% of the time at 1886 mhz boost (+250 mhz core overclock). 8A Bios (which I chose to mod rather than the stock Bios) disables automatic overclocking past boost clocks, so the clocks remain solid and stable fully.

Hi everyone,

First time here, and the reason I reached this awesome realm is due to a thread on a forum where there were discussions about overclocking the GTX970M - laptop model .

If this is not the good location for my question, I would like to apologies in advance

So, why am I here?

I am owning a Clevo Gaming laptop (my signature has the all the details) and I am trying to mod my graphics card so I can overclock it a bit to squeeze some more power from it. The laptop designed for the bigger brother GTX980M, meaning that I have 180W power brick and temperature of my GTX970M, so far , doesn't go above 65-70°C in high load. With this in mind I wanted to unlock my vbios and give it a try modding it with a vbios from Premamod one of the users who created it. Well I know, probably some of you will jump on my head telling me NOT to overclock cause it is a laptop and it safer not too and I understand but I still wanna try to see how it goes and if I fail I will go back to stock *.rom.

Well now is where I have some troubles , first:

1. Trying to save my current vbios , using GPUZ
Failed - doesn't work, gives an error: BIOS reading not supported on this device.
*I have disabled the GPU in Device Manager btw.
2. Used the Nvflash ( for which I would like to THANK YOU to the creator - amazing job)
Using the following command: nvflash --save GTX970MStock.rom
Failed - doesn't work , gives the following error: ERROR: No NVIDIA display adapters found
*I have disabled the GPU in Device Manager btw.

So, I am here asking for some help...anyone? any advice?

Thank you all in advance and stay *cool*

Hey Guys!

I tried to flash another bios to my GIGABYTE 970 mini, just to play around with 0% fan speed. Did the part with the Bios Tweaker, saved it, then downloaded nvflash. Ended with an error. Then downloaded "cert. bypassed" version, same thing happened. Then downloaded the "all checks bypassed" one, ended with the same result.

Can I do anything that helps me flash another bios? I'm clueless...

Give this one a try.. I am going to also post this one in the OP. This is the best NVFLASH (cert check bypassed) for MAXWELL cards

I'm suspicious of your BIOS file. Possibly corrupt? It says invalid.. I would try re-flashing your STOCK BIOS just to make sure that works OK. If you can't even flash a STOCK BIOS there's more digging needed.

Hello Guys,

i failed my flash on my 970. i created a bootable usb stick and have nvflash version 5.63. I download an original bios.rom from palit and everytime i use the command nvflash -4 -5 -6 original.rom i get an error in DOS

It Say Firmware image filename must have a *.rom or *.nvr extension

But it is a .rom without space or something else. i tried to rename it o1.rom bios.rom old.rom nothing works. can pls anybody help me.

Did you try flashing in windows? Not sure if you used a LiveUSB or something.. but Maxwell cards are flashed in Windows.

-4 -5 are old commands no longer supported in modern versions of NVFLASH. -6 I do still think is valid.

Check the OP for a link to v5.218 and try that in windows

There should be no need to force a flash if it is the correct BIOS for your GPU.

Sorry, no Pascal modding unless you go "all in" (hardware programmer) and even then you're limited and the gains are minimal from what I understand...

Power shunt MOD may be the best bang for buck..

i flashed my 980 over 100-times with this threads bypassed nvflash, i used batch-files to make it faster and easier.

I had the "can´t flash problem" with my 980 after playing with the fan-settings too much with the maxwel bios tweaker, i had to flash the stock bios.
After that i was allowed to flash a modded bios without the corrupt fan-setting.

Laithan am i right, that the new pascal-able bypassed nvflash only works with modded bioses, like before, and if i wanna flash a other cards stock-bios i can use the non-bypassed nvflash?

thanks

Unfortunately the newer Pascal BIOS' can be modified but not flashed via software. To be clear, there is NO working bypass for NVFLASH on Pascal.. only for Maxwell. You would need to buy a hardware flasher to flash a modified Pascal BIOS.

So can I just say this thread is amazing. Its like years of free help and advice, you are a saint lmao. Idk if you are still checking these or able to help still but im really grateful for how useful this has been for me and everybody else on here. So my question if anybody knows, is why on my Gigabyte p35v3 with GTX970M most of these bypassed Nvflash apps don't detect my card if I disable it? But wont flash "Access Denied" if it isn't disabled. I managed to flash a stock vbios with nvflash 5.353 because it runs from windows and disables the card for me I guess. Is that a special feature of the 5.353 version that my card needs to flash properly? And if so do any of these cert bypassed versions work the same way? I'm hoping to flash a modded vbios but my gpu seems to be a bit different and I've only gotten ANY flash to ever go through with 5.353. If anyone knows whatsup it would be awesome =) otherwise much love to you guys and thanks for making the internet better

Thanks although all the credit for this thread really goes to @JoeDirt I'm just the new janitor

I would always flash in windows and could recommend that you try v5.218 (posted in the OP). It seems to work the best for all Maxwell GPUs and might do the trick for you.

A MOD BIOS needs the modified version of NVFLASH
A STOCK BIOS needs the stock NVFLASH however v5.218 modified has always worked great for flashing a STOCK BIOS also (for me anyway)

If you need any help just holler

Its possible to modify NVFLASH to allow Board ID mismatch? I'm trying to repair a dead 1050 GTX, and the BIOS chip was blown. I managed to swap a BIOS from a dead 1050 TI, but I can't flash it, even with -6 parameter. On older versions of NVFLASH is possible to do that with -4 -5 -6 -J parameters. I did it sometimes on 700 series, but on Pascal GPUs I cant do that since only it works with newer versions, with already is without this parameters.

I can't even flash 1050 bios with hardware flash programmer, because the only BIOS files on the internet is the NVFlash files, that are partially files, not RAW flash data. I would need another 1050 to copy de RAW data... Would be nice if was possible to bypass the code to allow Board ID mismatch on flashing..

The -6 command works for Maxwell I think you are just not passing the checks maybe?
