You're quoting and replying to yourself now, we've had this thread going on too long now, we've all lost our minds :D

Yes, there is a list in the BIOS, and I showed it here on page 9-10, but no one as of yet has helped me to figure out how the CPU's are coded so I can change it.

If the CPU's are supported in that HP, then it will work as it should. If it's not supported, edit in the microcodes and it will work as it should, most other manufacturers do not lock out CPU's like Intel has in this case.
Usually if it's not supported, all you do it add the microcode and you're good to go, as long as it's generally compatible such as it is in this case.

The hp xw8600 works out the box, detected the processors and all the features that I’m missing on intel d5400xs are present. Stucks that intel locks out the processors.

Yes, it's bad move on Intel's part, especially when they added support for the CPU right under that which came out at the same time.
Those X5482 (I think is what it was), or the QX might be the only good options for high end CPU on this board.

Yes, but thy work when using mod BIOS with VT enabled by default correct? I think you confirmed that already. If not, then we know the issue aside from their CPU list. If I could figure out what one of those CPU's is in those short codes, maybe then I could crack the code method and switch it to X5942

A few months ago, I got a couple of skulltrail boards and a whole bunch of hardware to play around with
I was pulling my hair out trying to get Win10 to work, trying to get UEFI boot to work, and trying to get 32GB of compatible RAM (I did finally figure out that last one)

I've been keeping my eye on this thread ever since, but I've been too busy with other things to sit down and write up a response.

I would like to contribute to solving some of these issues however I can.

I have the following hardware available to test things out (and potentially send to someone for further testing if needed)

Skulltrail board #1 is the D94664-502 revision, but has broken Nvidia bridge chips from an overtightened waterblock and the PCIe slots don't work.
Board #2 is the D94664-501 revision, and works fine. Neither of them have socketed BIOS chips, though

Two pairs of QX9775s and a pair of X5482s - work as expected. All the instructions and BIOS features (Virtualization etc) seem to be properly supported and Windows 10 installs and runs fine. Was able to get up to 4GHz on one of the pairs..

A pair X5492s - as documented previously in the thread, these CPUs don't work properly. They come up with a limited instruction set in CPUID, and there are a few features missing from the BIOS

4x 4GB 2RX4 PC2-5300F - matching kit, works fine
4x 4GB 2RX4 PC2-6400F - non-matching kit, but works fine
4x 8GB 2RX4 PC2-5300F - matching kit, 32GB detected but only 24GB usable - 8GB "hardware reserved"
4x 8GB 4RX4 PC2-6400F - matching kit, all 32GB works - quad rank DIMMs seem to be the secret sauce

A PCI graphics card for the A2 board, until I can get the Nvidia bridge chips replaced

Sometime pretty soon I'm gonna skim through the rest of the thread again and see if I missed anything, but for now, is there anything I can do to contribute?

Yes, I can update, but for what CPU? You might have more CPU's than I do /forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Or did you just mean update all that's already in it? If yes, and size is an issue, which 1 or 2/3 do you not mind loosing?
Just update it for the x5492 cpu. thanks

What program did you use to open the fil e?

@terianx - MC Extractor to view stock, and hex edit to do microcodes and fit table correction. I could not find any program that opened it normally.
This was a tricky edit, I almost missed the FIT table, since I couldn't open the file in UEFITool. :D

Due to this, being unable to view the fit table in UEFITool I cannot see what the first 5 entries are (Non-ucode), often 3-5 entries are dealing with Intel bootguard, ACM, hash signatures etc.
And since those are present here, there may be Intel Bootguard set, ACM, or some signatures that would be broken by this process....
So the BIOS may fail to flash, or fail in another way, be ready to recover or be prepared to have to program it on there instead of flashing if blocked due to bootguard, broken hash or signature etc

All microcodes updated, one added 1067A @ extra platforms, two removed due to 10671 & 10674 latest round of ucodes combines platforms (Old version 2, 6 separate platforms, this is combined into one in both new versions)
Fit table corrected for updated ucode count and locations checked

Cool thread...

I see this thread is fairly recent. I started this build a few years ago:

https://www.overclock.net/forum/180...orum/18083-build-logs/1329027-retro-build-skulltrail-done-danger-den-style.html

, but never finished because I wasn't sure how 'future proof' it would be with Win 10 around the corner. Recently, I started to investigate whether I should finish because I really like the board and proc. Under water, it would run 4.4 to 4.5 GHz stable easy!!

So, I found this thread on AnandTech:

https://forums.anandtech.com/thread...400xs-aka-skulltrail-and-dual-xeon-e5450-windows-10-x64-pro-no-support.2444052/

They one respondent installed Win 10 no problems... so I am going to try a Win 7 install followed by a Win 10 upgrade. Don't hold your breath... I might not get around to it for a while. But if I do, I'll let you know how it goes...

Best,

FlashG
