Got a problem may make a separate thread for this, My 1080ti has only one HDMI port was wanting to use HDMI from receiver to 1080ti then to my monitor. so now what? my plan was skip using soundblaster z and let receiver handle all the audio.

Use the DP to the monitor. If that can't be done I'm not sure but I'd think a splitter would work in this situation.

Hi white owl yes I can use the DP to monitor, 1080ti has 3 DP ports. but will that work? im not sure how it would. how does the audio signal travel, from graphic card to receiver then out through speakers? was searching internet and found the splitter you mentioned. also looking for a DP to HDMI adaptor if that's even a thing ill find out lol

reason im wondering about all this I was told use hdmi from monitor to pc and hdmi from pc to receiver. didn't want the signal to get messed using DP instead of HDMI from monitor to 1080ti. ugh I overthink this stuff to much.

If you need sound from the PC to the receiver you can do what i do and use an optical toslink cable if you have such a port on your soundcard(s)
Thats how i ended up doing it after messing around with HDMI from the PC to the receiver and hated how it worked

Only downside to that is i only get 2,1 sound from my 5,1 setup but thats not a problem for you

If your monitor has DP port, just use DP cable to connect it to your GPU and then use a HDMI cable to connect your receiver to your GPU.
Then set the HDMI as your primary sound device and fiddle around the monitor settings in Windows (the receiver is perceived as a separate monitor).

EDIT: Oh yeah, there is also the option to use your mobo onboard HDMI connections (as long as the iGPU is not disabled).

got a toslink cable but like i said, kinda want to bypass sound card all together. putting audio through souncard from receiver would downgrade the audio i think. can try both ways and see what happens, no harm right. you said you didnt like how HDMI from PC to receiver worked, may i ask what you mean?

Every time i press a button on my remote to my receiver a small display pops up showing what button i just pressed and it blocks parts of the subtitles which i need since i have problems hearing voices so i need subtitles

It ended up driving me insane so i put the HDMI cable from the PC into the TV instead of the receiver and used an optical toslink from the PC to the receiver for sound
The downside to that is i can only get 2,1 sound despite the fact that i have a 5,1 setup but almost everything is 2,1 anyway

By the way it does not downgrade the sound at all as all audio processing is done by the receiver and not the PC soundcard
There is zero difference in sound quality between using the onboard motherboard soundcard and the Creative soundcard i had

Edit: this is my setup

Does your receiver not have HDMI output on it ?
I go from GPU to receiver to TV.

HDMI for both links If I go with optical out to reciever from my soundcard I only get 2.1 but I can use the soundcard for processing Using the HDMI for sound to reciever I get full 7.1

The only thing I don't like is when I switch to headphones I need to switch output device in windows
The best thing is I don't need to change EQ settings when I use my headphones vs speakers

This is what I was saying lol
Optical out is also a good option.

been away for few days, anyway got a receiver now and yes it has HDMI output and 4k something HDMI port right beside it. it also has 7 other HDMI ports. guess it doesn't matter which port I use? receiver is Denon S940H.

pair of Klipsch RP-150M Klipsch R-120SW subwoofer Denon AVR S940H ($900) total. using game HDMI port from receiver to graphic card. also got optical or toslink cable might try out. these Klipsch are little harsh still, or maybe they just need to be broke in? the ones I listened to sounded better. way my setup is its little crowded an close too. hearing sounds ingame and sounds in music haven't heard before, theres depth an clarity. the sub really helps these speakers out definitely like them a lot better than what I had cheap $40 speakers sounded gross. overall im happy with it going to keep it and get another pair for 5.1 next year when got bigger room and space for it.
If only going with 2 speakers and not upgrading any further in future id go with S2000 pro edifier to a soundcard. learned only thing ppl can do is point you to decent speakers so you get and idea what to look for and just go listen to them and pick one or maybe you run across some not mentioned an like it better like i did. seems everyone is little different on what sound they like, some are similar. learned alot and know what it is im looking for in speakers now, stuff gets expensive though. anyway thanks alot everybody :)

What would you reccomend for a computer soundbar + sub?

If you don't mind me asking, why a soundbar? Are you under some sort of space constraint?

A little but i think i can manage to buy some speaker not to wide, suggested from a friend that works in audio, like the Fostex PM0.3h and the PM-SubMini 2. But then i read on Amazon that the PM0.3 have some problems, so checking again this thread i noticed the brand Edifier and looking at their site i noticed the S350DB that are 127mm wide.

What is your budget?
