On October 8, 2019 Noctua announced the release of black coolers!

The new NH-D15 chromax.black, NH-U12S chromax.black and NH-L9i chromax.black are identical to the regular models except for the colour: Featuring black coated heatsinks, black fans with black anti-vibration-pads, black fan clips or fan screws and black mounting parts, they are literally black from head to toe. Thanks to thoroughgoing optimisations of the coating material and process, the chromax.black models provide the same, renowned quiet cooling performance as their regular, non-coated counterparts.
Teaming up with popular youtuber Linus Sebastian from Linus Tech Tips, the first 5000 pieces of NH-D15 chromax.black and NH-U12S chromax.black sold through Noctua’s official Amazon and eBay stores will be an exclusive Linus Tech Tips limited edition that includes extra orange anti-vibration pads and custom Linus Tech Tips fan stickers. The Linus Tech Tips limited editions have a strictly limited volume and will only be available via Noctua’s official Amazon and eBay stores while stock lasts. The non-limited versions of the NH-D15 chromax.black and NH-U12S chromax.black will start selling via Amazon as soon as the Linus Tech Tips limited editions are sold out and via other sales partners at the end of October.

The D15 does come with 1500 RPM fans vs 1200 RPM fans on the normal version, not sure why they are different but for any variance that could be part of the reason why.I saw a review and it pretty much said the black d15 didn’t perform as well as the original while the other black one performed slightly better than the original. Not sure what the coating is, but I don’t need one so I’ll pass. I was hoping for an extra heatpipe but I guess they are satisfied with 6. I wonder if they have played with larger diameter pipes. Seems like only a few have used 8mm pipes. I wonder if it’s a bit tougher getting a good coldplate with larger pipes than 6mm.
Pretty sure he was talking about the LTT review.Could you post link to review?
With all the variables involved in testing cooler performance like how well the cooler mates to IHS, air temp into cooler, differences in fan speed, etc. can easily account for a few degrees.
I'm guessing the coating is not effecting cooling any or enough to measure. Difference in temps caused by how well cooler base mates to IHS will be much greater than coating vs no coating. Keep in mind tea- kettles are usually have polished finishes to keep heat in better and heating stoves usually have matt /dull finishes to radiate heat better.![]()
That is pretty weird, why is one with chromax "A15 HS" model but normal one comes with identically named but different spec "A15" fans? Not so sure on that. NH-D15 also has 1500 RPM fans

The NF-A15 you buy separately is 1200 RPM.
They sure do love taking their time. im still waiting on their active noise canceling fans they announced back in 2012!This is long past about time. Noctua has a habit of promising something, then taking their sweet time delivering. Look at how long it took for Noctua to deliver the Chromax covers after first introducing at one of the trade shows (and introducing it again...).
