AsusPenguin

Hi guys,

Wanted to report that I have successfully flashed a modded BIOS that allows bifurcation.
So I installed the ASUS PCI card that allows to install 4 NVMe drives ; booted the machine, configured the PCI slod to support bifurcation and it works.
And the NVMe drive I have installed ( asmall Trascned 128GB) offers about 2.5GB/s read speeds and some 700MB/s write speeds. It's a really cheap drive I only bought for testing.
I will try to run something more performant...

Now the question is : in which PCI should I put this baby ?
I assume port 1 and 3 are excluded as they seem to be 8X PCI ports...
ASUS is a little confusing here as they state the board has 6 16X Gen 3 PCI ports. But it seems 2 of those six are 8X...

So for now I get :
- slot 1 : unused ;
- slot 2 : ASUS PCI Nvme card
- slot 3 : Radeon RX580
- Slot 4 : unused
- slot 5 : PCI card with 1 NVMe drive and 2 SATA drives ;
- slot 6 : PCI card allowing to connect SAS Srives.

Am I doing something wrong ?

Everything is working, no misunderstanding.
But I am under the impression that display is a little slow :-(

Thanks for your answers.

Regards.

Hi guys,

As probably many others in here, I have the ASUS Z10PE-D16 WS motherboard.
It has been flashed with the modded firmware that allows bifurcation on PCI slots.
The motherboard is fitted with 2 Intel Xeon 2683 equivalent ES CPU's.
It sports 144GB of RAM.

The internal slots/ports are populated as follows :
- internal M2 Slot => Samsung PM951 SSD
- 10 X SATA ports on mobo : 10 SATA drives, most of them hardware raided ;
- PCI slot 1 : PCI card with 1 NVME drive and 2 SATA drives (SATA drives being connected to internal SATA ports of MoBo) ;
- PCI slot 2 : ASUS Hyper M2 with 2 X PM981 Samsung SSD NVMe ;
- PCI slot 3 : Radeon X580 GPU ;
- PCI slot 6 : SAS card with 8 HDD connected, most of them in RAID 0 all SATA hooked up via SAS => SATA adapter.

Now the problem is :
- whatever SSD NVme drive I use, I can achieve really high READ speeds. On the ASUS Hyper M2 the PM981 both achieve 3200MB/s READ speeds... Which is as advertised and is good.
- BUT : WRITE speeds is another story... I NEVER get more than 650MB/s WRITE speed. For my NVMe SSD advertised speed should be AT LEAST 3 times highes, ever 4 times for the PM981 drives.

It is really as if the WRITE speed was capped to SATA speed as those 620/630MB/s are the max theoritical speed of SATA.

Is there any setting in the BIOS that will unlock that or am I simply doing something wrong ?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

Regards.

I have a Z10PE-D16 WS running two E5-2603v3's with 64GB RAM, running as a VMWare server. I'd like to add the ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 Card V2, and populate it with 4x m.2's.

@AsusPenguin or anyone - have you made any progress with your setup?

Related: I found this posting where a person states they have created a mod BIOS that enables bifurcation (Asus Z10PE-D16 WS 4101 BIOS mod with PCIE bifurcation (andybrown.me.uk). One adventurous sole attempted to use it, and ran into issues, and asked some questions which never were answered by the author - in the thread at least.

I modified BIOS version 4101 to support bifurcation for an ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 Card V2 and documented the process here: Asus Z10PE D16 WS Owners Thread

Hi all,
I wanna upgrade my network to (10Gbase-T), but I'm not quite sure which PCI-e card will 100% fit the board Z10PE D16 WS, so I just found by Amazon this card: Syba 1 10Gb PCIe Ethernet Network Card :unsure:
Please any advice.
Personal preference here, this would be my recommendation:

10Gb PCI-E Network Card X540-10G-2T, Dual RJ45 Copper Port CNA for PC with Low Bracket, 10GbE Converged Network Adapter(NIC), X540 Chipset, PCI-E X8
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IR7T7PG/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_gU8ZFbVB7X2ZB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It is more $$'s, but in my opinion it is worth it to have better performance.

Ah - thank you!

Now my devious plans to take over the world can begin....

Have you managed to put the Hyper M2 working on Asus z10pe D16 ws ?

Hi Guys

Got this board out of its box, which it has been sitting in for a while now and tried to power it but nothing.

I get no Q code on the display on the motherboard and i get nothing on the screen. no fans spin nothing. The only things that happens is that the PSU fan start spinning and i can get into BMC.

CPU i am using is a 2603 v3. I have also tried a 2620 v3 with no luck

What i have noticed is that the CPUERR_LED3 flashes for a split second but this LED is nowhere to be found in the manual.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I just plugged in another fan into the fan header and it does spin up so i believe power is getting into the system just no q code or anything on the display

I had the same. Nothing on q-code, fans were spinning. I figured out that CPU2 slot was broken... MB worked if I plugged only 1cpu (I switched CPUs and both were working on CPU1 slot, but they weren't if I connected 2).

Try only one CPU.

Forgot to mention that I'm not running dual CPU's I'm only running the single one but thanks for the reply.

What CPU are you running in your board? v3 or v4?

I know that previously v4 CPU's worked fine but i only have v3 CPU's around and considering how pricy the v4 CPU's are at the moment i don't think i can fork out for them. Ill keep an eye on eBay for a cheap one to turn up though
