Oh boy... sorry to hear that. I pay $70 USD approx ($85 CAD) for fiber.
When I was in rural areas, it'd be very difficult to find such an offer because the infrastructure, especially in Canada, is not there. In the city, its way more competitive and fiber is everywhere.

Can't wait for Starlink to become available.... :)

That makes my 200/10 (what are uploads?) for $50 look like a terrible deal. Man, starlink (or anything that gets me > 100mpbs upload speeds wherever I can live) would be amazing. I would love to not have to transcode a thing on my plex server when watching remotely.

I could get fiber for the same price if I lived a block away.
RIP :(

I don't think there is much that I hate more than the arbitrary borders for ISPs.

Took me 10 minutes to download. My Rog Strix 3080 is running at 2070mhz @ a steady 65 degrees and I am getting a consistent 140 fps maxed out with Ray Tracing on with a 144hz and 1440p monitor. Game look amazing.

Performance update:

Played about 3 hours last night. I can confirm demo build performance =/= retail build performance. Retail > Demo perf.

I played the game at Max settings, RT off, but with Textures reduced to (High 3GB), I was averaging 60 FPS outdoors at 4K with my 3060 Ti. Photo below...

Approx 90 FPS indoors.

This is miles better than my experience in the “village” demo where I was dropping to 30-40 FPS in the fields at 1440p! When I disabled RT in the demo, my fields framerate still tanked there. See my post on the first page.

At the exact same location from the demo, within the full retail game, I was at ~60 FPS while pushing more than 2x the pixels.

There are still some locations where my framerate dropped below 60, usually around 45-50 but these were intense areas. Either a room in the castle with high amount of volumetric lighting flooding the space with high quantities of geometry. Or, facing an enemy with loads of special effects.

For comparison, I played through Residential Evil Village this past month in 4K and my average framerate was approx 90 FPS. So similar, but considering the increase in scope, texture quality, and scene complexity, it’s very well optimized.

For those who have a proper HDR display or OLED... this game will knock your socks off.

My only recommendation: Turn off “Film Noise”. As I quickly discovered it destroys contrast in dark areas. Black individual pixels that were meant to be off with the OLED, ended up being grey. The filter works as intended but because of the effect, the contrast is muted.

Working HDR? Wow.
lol right? Well, RE7 also works very well besides my Steam overlay gets a little crazy (blue hue?). In game, it works very well. I haven’t tried RE2/3 remakes but I’ve heard it’s solid. Not many other games I play trigger HDR. For instance, Cyberpunk HDR doesn’t work for me on the C9 OLED. Colours go wacky.

Screenshots won’t do it justice so I tried to capture a few photos from the opening scene with my phone. The scene / room is dimly lit but the few lights that are on, highlight HDR extraordinary well.

No spoilers here for those concerned.

I am in the castle level. With HDR off the game just looks washed out and way less "scary".

RE8 is really all not that scary ^ It's definitely more action oriented than RE7. So far, it feels more like a first person RE4, than a sequel to 7. Which is good and bad IMO. Haven't beaten it yet but I don't believe it will outpace RE7's house and Baker family.

It's also quite easy on normal. I'm going to switch over to hardcore...

I'm really glad they are able to pack them as well as they can. Much rather download 28 gigs than 64. On a good day my downloads are 650kbs, but at least it only costs me $60 a month....

It is what it is.
Oof. $55 for 40Mbps here. I never quite get full speeds though. Steam I can usually get up to 3.4 or 3.5 mb/s download, but I usually have to limit it to half that if other people are using the internet.

AT&T charges the same amount for 1.5-5mbs dsl as they do for the base fiber package. Entry price is the same across the board, what that gets you is based on what's available where you are. No fiber on my side of the street so my $60 (with fees) only gets me 5mbs DSL, but I am at the end of the line so I don't usually get the rated speeds.

5mbs DSL was high speed back in the day, but it's barely adequate with current web design being what it is. Everything comes to a screeching halt whenever one of the folding machines starts to upload or download a work unit. I use an Ipad and a laptop with verizon data connections so that I can watch prime (ipad to tv) and browse the internet without causing everything to buffer.

Finished the game. Had issues with RT with 3080. It would tank performance after playing for 30-60mins. Had to play with RT off.

I'm a little late, but better than never. I was a little busy with other articles when the demo dropped. Here my Performance Analysis using the X58 + RTX 3080 combo. I have included plenty of information that compares Nvidia’s latest driver (466.27) against the older driver (466.11) as well. Other info is included like Rasterization vs RTX and so on.

Update: I've just beat the game. In game timer topped out at 13:24'55". Steam time is 22.7 hours. Steam Community :: Screenshot (screenshot of completion time / NO SPOILERS).

Definitely longer than I expected. No major bugs experienced. However, a bit disappointing that not a single patch has been rolled out to improve performance (hitching when killing an enemy). I still prefer 7 at its core but 8 definitely is objectively better. More variety, more weapons, more lore, mercenaries etc.

Post game appears to be far greater than I expected too. Challenges / currency system, new game+, multiple new weapons and weapon modifiers (unlimited ammo), art work, videos etc.

Also, DLC is in the works... granted it's clearly in early stages given the announcement.

What are others opinions on the game now that hype died down?

From what i've read on the steam forums capcom is known for their slower than usual pc patches. RE2 took about a month after release for any sort of patch from them. I'm looking forward to FSR on this game though.

That doesn't surprise me. However what does surprise me is that lack of planning for single player DLC. Why are they just now announcing they're starting on DLC?

Investing into Re:Verse (competitive multiplayer) seems... very risky no?

If it was co-operative, that would be more interesting and aligned with Resident evil core mechanics. You know... survival / action / horror.

Capcom didnt expect such a large success with Village. They are not know for gud management since their existent. This is just a glaring example. RE is not known for DLC, hence no plans. The multiplayer does seem like an afterthought, but they want to be like DBD (dead by daylight). Capcom even teamed up with them for DBD DLC. They had failed before regarding multiplayer, so this attempt maybe different. There is plenty of story to go around. I would like it to be expansion heavy, but who knows. Anything involving capcom is hit or miss.
